GNP is yet another example of a small business, based right here in Gateshead, that's doing amazing things and giving back, with plans to support more young people to get into the industry.

I joined Chris on his Friday delivery round, to chat about his experience as a start-up and his bold ambitions as he scales up.

Founded by top North East chef Chris Eagle, GNP are purveyors of hand-made baked goods, including pies, sausage rolls and pastries. And they're going from strength to strength, bringing their portable pies to the people!

I sat down with John for a chat about the business, where it came from and what comes next. We talked for some time and he gave me a tour of the site to talk about their new space which will soon be home to 'meet the writer' events, podcasting and education.

And like so many of our small businesses, they go above and beyond to support the local community.

Unique started off as a distributor - they ship worldwide, but they wanted to offer more to local people here in Gateshead. So they opened a reading room for customers to enjoy a relaxing browse over a cuppa.
