Perhaps they thought it went without saying but it’s worth noting that this webinar is *free*. Looks like it could be very worthwhile.

Yeah - I mean expecting details of what courses you were actually going to cut would be too big an ask for the LOTO.

Wait…. She had a go at anthropology *and* tjheatre studies? This is basically my entire family other than me. 😂

You are spot on that it must referred to as “the apparatus”. This is provided for under the same secret law which mandates that only Year 6s can sit on the benches in the hall.
markgoodrich.bsky.social
Er….i think a fair number of schools still use it but you need someone appropriately trained and confident with it. We are rightly a bit more risk conscious these days!

My point is that the “be more like the UAE” floats around with no serious scrutiny. If they were actually pinned down to it meaning an elite living in an autocracy with a huge underclass, I think their popularity would go down pretty quickly.
markgoodrich.bsky.social
Let’s see them pitch that to the electorate.
markgoodrich.bsky.social
But they can’t exactly say that can they!?

Great read and you can also get the highly enjoyable @jonnelledge.bsky.social History of the World in 37 Borders for the same price! They were both well worth the hardback price I paid for them so an absolute steal if you are interested in Borders at all.

You can get my book Borderlines in electronic form for an amazing 99p at the moment; at a time when politicians are fetishising borders, why not look at them in a bit more detail, and get the view from Europe’s borders? www.amazon.co.uk/Borderlines-...

So frustrating, isn’t it? Trying to copy the UAE doesn’t stand up to a moment’s scrutiny (huge migrant population treated badly and not integrated, sharia law elements, no democracy to name just 3 things that wouldn’t work in the UK).
markgoodrich.bsky.social
Very disheartening. It’s great to have an alternative to A Levels available and the IBDP offers something different and challenging for kids.
markgoodrich.bsky.social
The idea that migrant workers toiling in terrible conditions are “integrating” into UAE society is just plain wrong in every way. Yet there seems no comeback for completely false statements at the moment.

Thanks for this! It's just a completely wrong statement from Lam. I'll bet your primary gets great results in KS2 SATs as well.

Always like seeing your commentary on how recruitment is going against targets….
markgoodrich.bsky.social
Many thanks, Jack! (Although I am not sure about all this education commentary going on LinkedIn!)

The real expert on this stuff is @jackworth.bsky.social and it would be great to see him back on here with his views!

I am surprised Jenrick has not yet declared war on quinoa salad eaters.

…this conference should put the Lib Dems ahead.
markgoodrich.bsky.social
So depressing that she is supposed to be a “rising star” in the Tory party….it’s just a race to the bottom with Reform now with no regard for any facts.
markgoodrich.bsky.social
This is (a) racist dogwhistling and (b) wrong. London highest EAL and best results.
markgoodrich.bsky.social
I do think there are some advantages to all-through schools which are common internationally although I only know of @reachschools.bsky.social in the UK.
markgoodrich.bsky.social
Interesting…..I don’t really know enough about the curriculum in Y7 and Y8 to have a view on what should change bur producing a lower standard of work is clearly a cause for concern. (Incidentally, coming back to Nathan’s point at the outset, the reverse would probably be useful too).
markgoodrich.bsky.social
1. Big decrease in happiness at school then which never really gets recovered.
2. Curriculum which doesn’t challenge / build on primary so kids see Y7 and Y8 as a waste.
