Retired IT guy. Is this place better than the old place?

I am left believing that this obvious destruction of law, education, healthcare and the old economy is what Americans really want. They see the reconstruction of a new America, led by an autocrat, being better for them.

There is simply no other explanation for what’s happening.

Watched Canada’s new industry minister, Mélanie Joly, say “…the rules of international trade are being rewritten…”. I imagine the Trump admin feels this will be to America’s advantage. Might not work out that way.

“We need Greenland for national security and international security … So we'll, I think, we'll go as far as we have to go” - Trump’s words yesterday.
Is that really America speaking?
Is Canada next?

The Annual Treat Assessment from Tulsi Gabbard, Director of National Intelligence, states that Mexico crime organizations are the dominant source of illicit drugs.
So Canada isn’t a significant source of fentanyl as per Trump. A lie. From Trump. Who would have thought it?

Mike Meyers to Mark Carney: It’s bullies. This is what I can’t stand in the world. …. I think you’re reasonable and I think the world needs more grown ups…

This is NOT fake news. This is Danielle Smith talking to Breitbart about Pierre Poilievre. They both need to be voted OUT.
Vote for Mark Carney.

Smith to Breitbart: “What I fear is the longer this dispute goes on, politicians posture, and it seems to be benefiting the Liberals right now. So I would hope we could put things on pause is what I’ve told administration officials. Let’s just put things on pause so we can get through an election.”

Not the main point here, but as far as attitudes about borders go, "someone drew an artificial line with a ruler" isn't exactly consistent with "we're building a wall!"
Trump’s Lust for Canada Echoes Putin’s Lust for Ukraine
Expansionist rhetoric, economic grievance, and fantasies of erasing an “artificial” border.

Putting the Arctic Ocean closer to the center, this brings the Greenland Canada gambit into focus. It is a grab for power, money, water, and resources, also giving the US complete control over the Northwest Passage. Fentanyl and the border are a smokescreen for a much bigger project: theft.

Call it anecdotal, but my Canadian friends who are cancelling their US travel are not doing it because of tariff worries at all; they’re doing it because the US government is currently actively threatening Canada’s sovereignty and economy and they’re all justifiably furious
This is exactly why Canadians are fed up with US media.

A segment on Canadians cancelling Vermont vacations. Mentions tariffs but not (1) who started the trade war or (2) that the US is constantly threatening to ANNEX our country!

This isn’t MAGA. It’s not FOX. It’s a random NBC affiliate.

Eventually the US and Canada will have to work out a trade deal. And we will emerge from Trump’s presidency with our sanity and borders intact.
But the damage is done and it cannot be undone. Canada needs to think big and decouple from the US. Otherwise we will become the 51st state.

Apparently India and the US are talking trade, tariffs and the like that, I assume, could lead to some kind of agreement.
Given Canada and Mexico’s experience with the Trump administration’s commitment to the North American free trade agreement why would anyone trust them?

The most frightening line from our Prime Minister’s speech yesterday: “What he wants to see is a total collapse of the Canadian economy because that will make it easier to annex us”. Which does align with the President’s public statements. It is beneath America.
