My Republican member of Congress in California, Kevin Kiley, voted to kick millions of children off Medicaid in July 2025, the same month that he voted to block the release of files revealing the truth about pedophile and Donald Trump confidant Jeffrey Epstein.

That's the story, folks.

Today, my GOP representative, Kevin Kiley, expressed "outrage" about gerrymandering in California on the floor of the House.

Yet, two weeks ago, Kiley said he wouldn't support a bill for national independent redistricting unless it was accompanied by widespread disenfranchisement.

Most important U.S. states in each century for understanding the course of American democracy.

18th century: Pennsylvania
19th century: Kentucky
20th century: Alabama

I have a much longer thread on WHY, but I thought I'd throw out some clickbait at first to gauge interest.

Congressman, you're a disgrace, & you deserve to lose your seat.

Today, on July 4, Republicans celebrated the enactment of what might be the most heinous piece of legislation in my lifetime, the “Big, Beautiful Bill."

Scores of children who will be hurt by the brutal cuts it makes to Medicaid, food stamps, & other social programs.

Friends! If you have a Republican member of the House, NOW is the time to call them & tell them to vote NO on the Big, Beautiful Bill.

Tell them your name, where in the district you live, to vote no, and, if you want, pick a reason (I said Medicaid cuts when I called my rep, Kevin Kiley).

Re - Homeland Security thugs roughing up Senator Alex Padilla:

Years from now, Republicans will try & gaslight us about how bad 2025 actually was. About all their atrocious acts of political violence & moral bankruptcy. “You’re exaggerating,” they will say. “It wasn’t that bad!”

One of the things I hate most is post-election analyses that treat whatever election result that happened as the “inevitable” one.

Much more credible, in my mind, are pre-election analyses.

Today, I'm thinking w/ contempt about my Republican state senator, who ran on being a "businessman", but then yesterday voted NO on one of the most important bills in California history to make it easier for OTHER businesspeople (i.e., developers) to build the housing our state desperately needs.

As we advance big housing reforms — including my bill to allow more homes near transit & @buffywicks.bsky.social bill to exempt infill housing from CEQA — we can look to Sacramento as an example of what happens when a city takes housing production seriously: Lower costs & the sky doesn’t fall.
Legislators should look to Sacramento as a test case on housing reform | Opinion
“Our infill and transit-oriented housing strategy is working extremely well for Sacramento’s affordability and climate goals.”

We had over 30 people turn out for our event on housing and homelessness in Sacramento County last night. Thanks to Supervisor Rich Desmond, County Planning Director Todd Smith, and Deputy County Executive Dave DeFanti for a great panel discussion. And thanks to 19 Handles for hosting us.

When it comes to building the housing our region needs to address its homelessness crisis, Sacramento County matters. It matters a lot.

Please join us next Tuesday to hear Supervisor Desmond's thoughts on housing in Sacramento County & ask him YOUR questions!

Compared to when Pope Francis was selected, a much higher proportion of the College of Cardinals come from countries adversely affected by the Trump administration's decimation of USAID.

Today, X's AI bot incorrectly stated my profession (I am NOT a "licensed professional fiduciary") & gave me credit for my roast.

Since my rep WON'T hold an in-person town hall & won't answer my question at his tele-town hall, I have to settle w/ being the nightmare of his social media dreams.

If your heart aches for the family of Laken Riley but NOT for the women and girls who’ve gone through excruciating pain or died of sepsis because they could not get a safe and legal abortion, that’s not moral outrage… it’s indoctrination.

What a broken political system we have where the same political party that f*cks over the economy every time they’re in power can then regain power, take credit for the other party’s *successful* efforts to fix the economy, & ride that political wave until, inevitably, they crash the economy again.

Every single Democrat in Congress should be to matching Al Green’s cane-waving energy.

Just now, we saw a Republican (male) member of Congress literally reach across the well of the United States House of Representatives to forcibly grab a sign from a female member of Congress that read “this is not normal.”

None of the Republican leaders walking through the well even flinched.

I've noticed a lot of commentators who used to treat Trump w/ absolute contempt start to normalize him over the past two months.

I think a lot of this has to do with Trump's winning the popular vote in 2024.

We MUST push back against this kind of sane-washing of our despotic president.

A HUGE underreported story from 2024 exit polls is how many votes Kamala Harris picked up from voters who disapproved of Joe Biden's performance as president.
