Iron Man was hardly interesting in his conception, but starting with #45, you can watch the creative team figure out the formula in three issues, much like chipping away at stone to uncover the sculpture hidden within. arcticinkcomics.blogspot.com/2025/12/tale...

If The Amazing Spider-Man #3 was all about the hero and the villain, and the thematic dynamics of their respective characterizations, the following two issues drill down on the human behind the mask.

I've never read been much of a Fantastic Four reader, but in the main story of Annual #1 I found some of the beginnings of narrative dynamics in Marvel's comics going beyond good guys fighting bad guys. #comics #comicbooks #marvel #retrocomics

The Avengers weren’t a collection of Marvel’s biggest heroes, but a bunch of spare parts cobbled together – and it just happened to work.

Why did Spider-Man become a big success while others like Iron Man took a while to catch on? I wrote a retrospective on the subject; you can read it and any upcoming Silver Age Marvel retrospectives here:

Tales of Suspense #42 (1963) & The Amazing Spider-Man #3 (1963): Was Spider-Man really that good?
I recently started re-reading Marvel comics from the early 60s on, primarily due to an acute nostalgia for silver age  Spider-Man . I've rea...

“Displacement”

A finished key art piece of fantasy and cyberpunk aesthetics colliding. A lone knight stands in the middle of a grimy, ultra-capitalist cityscape—far from where he belongs.

How did he get here? And who (or what) is he fighting? ⚔️💀🔧

Progress snapshot – there’s a lot of work still to do, but it’s at least starting to look like a proper scene. What do you think? #digitalart #conceptart #freelanceartist #fantasyart #cyberpunkart #ttrpg #gameart #ttrpgart

I painted this in 2021 with the aim of doing something interesting with perspective; I’m still sort of happy with it. How do you think this scene will play out? #digitalart #conceptart #fantasyart #characterdesign #ttrpg #ttrpgart #gameart #freelanceartist

Color blocking is done; this piece will rapidly start coming to life as rendering gets underway. Who do you think is winning this duel? #digitalart #fantasyart #cyberpunkart #characterdesign #freelanceartist #gameart #ttrpgart

Working on a new portfolio piece – worlds colliding in this one! I’m currently finishing up lineart, color blocking is next. What color palette do you think would fit this scene?

Neon lights, back-alley deals, and high-tech augmentations. Had a lot of fun designing this piece—one of my more mood-intensive works to date. If you lived in a cyberpunk world, what augmentation would you get first?

Lego Spider-Man Advent Calendar – Day #1
December 2, 2024 at 5:49 AM
Day 1 of learning to draw a Mark Bagley style Spider-Man. This one is still a mess, produced through a combination of reference drawing, tracking and freehanding; in time, I’m hoping to develop a sense of how to do it organically.

After being a relatively one-note side character mostly for personal conflict or dramatic irony, and more absent in the 80s, Aunt May enjoyed some proper character development in the 90s. These were mostly bits written by J.M. DeMatteis, who is obviously the GOAT with introspective character pieces.

I don’t read much manga, but I recently got this big boi and thought I’d give it a try – only one chapter in so far, but it seems interesting enough. I’ll certainly finish it, and then we’ll see whether I want to move on to the next Omnibus. #aot #manga #comics

Started reading Spider-Man 2099 for the first time recently, and I’m surprised by how solid and across the board different from the mainline Spidey it is. Worldbuilding in particular is interesting, and I love the concept of the cults forming around superheroes. #comics #comicbooks #spider-man
