Took some time away from doom-scrolling for the sake of my mental health. I've been enjoying the Tour de France, and getting out on the bike(s). Bought my first proper road bike in years. Still dialing in the fit. Revisiting some old haunts.

Yesterday's ride. Lowest HR relative to speed of the season so far. The butterfly weed has just started blooming. Still have yet to see any Monarch butterflies.😢

Yesterday's ride on County Trunks and farm access roads. Went out after the worst heat of the day had passed. I'm blessed that I can be in the country within 5-15 minutes. Mostly took it easy, aside from mashing it up some of the hills.

Today's road ride on the 29er. The route mostly paralleled the Wisconsin River and Mill Creek. Outbound was mostly a slight downhill. The final third of the ride was into a headwind, which is reflected in the higher HR. Felt strong, but need to do an easier ride tomorrow.

Yesterday's rides. Don't currently have a road bike, so took my cheap, heavy 29er out on the road. Did 2 loops north of town. Road a 1.3 mi section w/a 2.68% grade twice. Hardest ride YTD. I think that's pretty good for a 62 year old, 2x cancer survivor.

Yesterday's rides. Don't currently have a road bike, so took my cheap, heavy 29er out on the road. Did 2 loops north of town. Road a 1.3 mi section w/a 2.68% grade twice. Hardest ride YTD. I think that's pretty good for a 62 year old, 2x cancer survivor.

Had my best fat bike trail ride of year yesterday. I almost bailed part way through the ride because there was a light rain for the whole ride. But I was feeling so strong that I just kept going. I ended up covered in trail crud & looked like a drowned rat.

Because I sometimes make bad decisions, I did a trail ride on the fat bike. Today's high was 93F, with a heat index over 100F. It was a real ordeal! I drank a LOT of water on the ride. Thankfully stayed within zone 2.

A successful zone 2 trail ride. Only hit zone 3 a few times. My zone 2 is roughly 121-141 BPM. Got rained on a bit, but it actually felt good. The crud on the watch is a mix of trail dust and tree pollen. The black locust trees are in full bloom. They're scent was heavy in the air!

On today's trail ride I felt strong & tried to completely trash my legs. Succeeded! I don't know what it is about me that I enjoy doing this to myself! Faded a bit in the final 5 miles. As currently set up, my bike weighs 34.6 lbs. with full bottles. #trailride #fitness #fatbike #biking
