I think it's a near 100% certainty that the vast majority of the well-off who fetishize manual labor, have never done manual labor.
I've worked as a roofer, carpenter's assistant, summer relief in a can manufacturing facility, etc. The sense of accomplishment was gratifying, but I don't miss it.

the other thing is that no one who fetishizes manual labor actually cares to improve life for people who are in those circumstances! no support for unionization or a generous welfare state! no interest in policies that make life easier for people who work their hands or afford them more autonomy!

Some segment of the population has always been like this. Trump's ascent to the National stage and the rise of MAGA have given these people the permission structure to be open about their disdain for empathy.
I want to know how the people around me lost the ability to care about the suffering of others, and worse, how that ability became a character flaw.

Yesterday's ride on County Trunks and farm access roads. Went out after the worst heat of the day had passed. I'm blessed that I can be in the country within 5-15 minutes. Mostly took it easy, aside from mashing it up some of the hills.
