I used to be an author until I got sick.
Now I’m learning how to paint and sing.
Love art, puppies and acts of kindness.
Looking for the goodness that resides in most of us.

I won’t post often. I mainly repost animal, science, archaeology and anthropology posts.
The world is a dark place right now.
Bringing a little light into it might help someone 💜

Ned Hanlan was Canada's first individual sporting hero.
For a period of time in the late-1800s, he was unbeatable in rowing, winning 300 races and losing only six.
A statue of him even stands at Toronto's Hanlan's Point (ironically not named for him).
This is his story.

An adorable Egyptian figurine: a resting hippo, painted with Nile flora in black lines, evoking the lush riverbanks where hippos lived.

In Egyptian culture, hippos were generally associated with life, fertility, and rebirth.

Dating around 1900 BC.🧵1/2

The names of Canada's provinces and territories come from many sources.
Some names come from Indigenous words, while others are named for royalty, and some are named for where settlers came from.
This is how each province and territory was named!
