My article 'Impotence and Incompetence: Edward Krasiński’s Art and Writing' is out in Oxford Art Journal!
Come for Krasiński, stay for Białoszewski and Gombrowicz.
This has been years in the making, but I had so much fun with it.
It's open access!

Impotence and Incompetence: Edward Krasiński’s Art and Writing
What if, within a workbook filled with aphorisms, one finds a reference, the notation of a meeting or of an address, or a laundry list: is it a work, or no

After the anticipated and hoped for prisoners/hostage exchange, there will remain in Israeli prisons thousands more Palestinians than there had been there on 6th October 2023.

"15 years ago, Polish workers came here to find opportunity. Now Poland is growing twice as fast as we are," says Kemi Badenoch.

Any ideas what may have happened in the interim?

Not only smaller humanities departments but even Oxford itself, whose secret is that it runs on the labour of poorly paid precariously employed academics (66% are employed on a fixed-term contract and this doesn’t even include college work).

In 2025, do we really still have to do the whole cyrillic thing…

It helps to be able to spell the country you say only you are competent enough to run.
Goody-bag merch from Tory Conference branded "When Labour negotiates Britian loses" and signed "Kemi Badenoch".

The whole “it’s un-British” thing reminds me of the current situation in Germany, where antisemitism is being represented solely as a phenomenon imported by immigrants and nothing to do with Germany as such.

This is why “unis can’t afford it” is a terrible argument against UCU strikes over pay; if 1.4%, effectively yet another big pay cut, is already unaffordable then the system is completely broken and we need to start over.

The rise is 1.4%. ONE POINT FOUR PERCENT.

These cases of extreme, far-right racist violence targeting Muslims and people seeking asylum are being blithely ignored by most media and politicians because they see no political capital in addressing them.

Really just amazing that not only did this get published, it is being promoted at the very top of the website.

Men in balaclavas set fire to a mosque in East Sussex last night. It's only appearing on the BBC's local coverage, rather than its main national headlines, despite coming just a week after the (also under-reported) firebombing of an asylum hotel in London last week

This must be one of the dumbest non-arguments I’ve ever seen in the Guardian.

I’m disillusioned with Keir Starmer’s government. But my late father’s passion for his political career makes it difficult to imagine putting my cross in another box

I am not religious, but when people's places of worship are attacked, as when their homes, schools, libraries, etc are attacked it is an attempt to destroy the connections between us. That is what antisemitic violence aims to do.
