You don’t think Streeting, Rayner and co would want him back as he’s the most likely to kick off a leadership challenge, but probably wouldn’t win? He would give them an opening without them having to make the risky first move.

“My sister in-law criticised my choice of tea bags. Was I wrong to throw dog shit at her car?”

But that column in the Guardian attracts the worst people in the world.

The Telegraph’s Tom Harris? Former minister, nasty piece of work, might fit the bill.

Here’s a fun top five: things that are consensus among historians but are essentially unknown by the public. Richard I, a bad king of England. Roman Empire, fell in 1453. Paul, more important than Jesus. Witch burning, a modern phenomenon not a medieval one. Britain last invaded in 1688. Yours?
As someone who wrote a dissertation on that damnable Frenchman; one can only hope.

My in-laws get the Times so I read it a bit at Christmas and it is sad how rubbish it has become. Basically a more boring version of the Daily Mail.

I’ve always thought Starmer’s dishonesty is an under-recognised factor in his unpopularity. Commentators tend to dismiss it as ‘all politicians lie’ but he is unusually cynical in way he does it.

Do you see any prospect of the Greens winning councils in London ?
December 30, 2025 at 7:51 PM
Yes obviously. But we are talking about a party that had 1 MP then, 4 now and maybe 20 tops after the next election so none of it is happening overnight, but you have to have some consistency in your analysis.
