I assume this is about Celebrity Traitors and not some Sachsgate 2 scandal I’ve missed.

My latest startup profile, this time from a founder tackling a problem he knows well, for a second time.

OpenAI is advertising ChatGPT with outdoor display ads.

Qualified mechanics despairing at this one.
A outdoor ad display unit showing a photos of a couple looking at their car’s engine while checking their smartphone. Text reads “ChatGPT” with an OpenAI logo.

It both the US and the UK, the political right teaches institutions not to mess with it – a small slip up with be ruthlessly and publicly exploited.

The left, meanwhile, teaches the same institutions it can be repeatedly and easily messed with, and there will barely be a squeak.

if that HIGNFY Euan Blair fuckup had been about a right-winger it'd have had full front-page scandal coverage in the Mail followed by frontpage coverage across the board for the next week, days of "BBC in crisis" headline coverage by the BBC, and parliamentary questions about Tim Davie's future

Substack is milking the Free Press acquisition for publicity but I bet it wishes it could take a 10% cut from every acquisition of a newsletter on its platform instead.

I had never thought of that but now you’ve wrecked my brain

“If Bari Weiss saved your life or got you back with your ex-wife…”

Doing some book research into the mid-90s internet - this is a glossary from The Internet For Beginners, Usborne, 1997. It has made me feel very nostalgic

PA was apparently involved in behaviour far worse than breaking into a poorly secured airbase, but they have done a terrible job of convincing the public of that.

If the government simply did a better job of justifying why Palestine Action is proscribed, they might not need new laws.

AKA: Copy Americans with an ICE-style force… and a weird obsession with political backronyms

Sam Altman on the Sora social AI video app:

“We are hearing from a lot of rightsholders who are very excited for this new kind of "interactive fan fiction" and think this new kind of engagement will accrue a lot of value to them”
Sora update #1
We have been learning quickly from how people are using Sora and taking feedback from users, rightsholders, and other interested groups. We of course spent a lot of time discussing this before...

Okay 1988 was a bumper year but Straight Up is up there for me.

They simply don’t appreciate the greatest pop hit of 1988

Playing Paula Abdul’s ‘Straight Up’ on the Roland D-50 soft synth, and my kids are distinctly unimpressed

I hope Hat Trick Productions is going to issue an apology and correction in next week’s edition of Have I Got News For You, because totally fake viral social posts should not be presented as fact on national television.

Just wow.

Missed this but HIGNFY (in a scripted moment) spread a fully debunked, viral conspiracy theory about ID cards last night. The most basic of fact checking clearly never happened. When online rubbish makes it to mainstream, worrying for public discourse.

Here’s the clip (which I will once again note for out-of-context reposts, is a total bullshit conspiracy/fake news).

Last night I had a dream Aphex Twin turned up at my house, detuned my synthesiser pleasingly, and left again.

He wouldn’t let me take a photo so all I had as a memory was a synth patch labelled ‘AFX’.

Dilemma: I'm starting to see videos shared on social media where I'm 50%+ sure they're AI generated as ragebait, but calling them out when I'm not sure seems wrong so I'm just quietly not engaging with them and despairing for the information ecosystem.
