It even did some actual production monitoring because a Govt department wanted it as a backup alerting mechanism for our NSM tool.

It loaded a server list, did up/down checks for the host and windows services, and even had a state machine, and email alerting.

Maybe it's time for me to resurrect 'Monitaurus' which was a VBScript based monitoring tool I wrote in about 2006. I did it as a joke to see if I could replicate 80% of what the 'Computer Associates NSM' product was doing for us. It was a success and in less than 1 kilobyte of code. 😂

I'm not [yet] aware of the degree of rust support available, but I've just written this article about MCP support for adding Otel, so I'm hoping things are going in a good direction.
