I always love to paint with fan brushes. It lets me loosen up my strokes. Often, I turn my paintings to give myself a different viewpoint.

Every day, I walk in my garden for meditation and inspiration. Here is what I just saw.

Cosmic Peony Power, my painting, won the Ageeva Award at the 136th Annual Show of the National Association of Women Artists. This painting speaks of energy & movement in this world of chaos. She speaks of strength & courage, which we all need at this time. She will not be subjugated nor conquered.

One of my favorite rhododendrons bloomed on May 12th and bloomed for almost two weeks. This cheerful yellow and white with a touch of lime green on the buds is like a sunny-side-up egg. It's actually a deciduous Rhododendron x gandavense, Exbury White.

Every day, I look in my garden to find something that is subtle but incredible. These moments help to calm me amidst the chaos. My garden is my sanctuary. #takeaminute #garden #sanctuary #WheresYourSanctuary #nature

Looking forward to moving my hobby outside to my deck. This former root cellar used to be my darkroom. After I went fully digital, the room stayed empty. I had the idea to install plant lights. The fresh smell of soil helps get me through those dark days of winter.

At work in my studio, as I listen to 70s classic rock, I paint. As I paint, I usually listen to 70s classic rock. Rather loud I might add. Today's soundtrack was Joe Cocker's Mad Dogs and Englishmen.

Springtime sounds and sights in my garden make my heart sing. Take a minute to slow down and enjoy nature. You'll feel better, calmer, and happier if you do.

At the end of the day in my studio, there's a lot of cleaning up to do. Sometimes it is a miracle to me that my colorful paintings come out of this mess. I love being an Artist!

Spring is such a special time in my garden as it emerges from the dull colors of winter with joyous color. I spend much time slowly looking at flowers closely because they soothe my soul and inspire my art. #garden #flowers #inspiration

This is me working in my Studio yesterday. I usually work for two hours at a time every day. By then the paint needs to dry and my eyes need a rest.

I never realized that I often paint with my hand behind my back. You don't notice this since you're absorbed in what you're doing.

It's Women's History Month! My article in Sanctuary Magazine just got published. Because I paint large flowers, people naturally say I paint like Georgia O’Keeffe. It's not her flowers but her skeletons that I fell in love with. Read the article here: www.sanctuary-magazine.com/marys-art-st...

This is my second studio space in my home. In the other, larger room I do my oil painting. In this one I do my dry media and sometimes watercolor.

When I look at paintings, I move up close to see brushstrokes. I step back to see the entire painting, and I keep going back-and-forth to take the whole experience of the work in.

The Art League of Long Island exhibition opening reception was last weekend. My painting, Cosmic Peony Power, made her debut there. She's a 30x30" oil on gallery-wrapped canvas painting. She's flowing off the canvas with energy.

My artist page on the Ceres Website looks bright and cheerful in these winter dark times. I'm so happy that I've been juried into this NYC Chelsea based women's feminist art gallery. It's been an over 45 year goal of mine. Finally made it. Don't ever give up!

I have been keeping a journey every day for years. I found that writing each day helped me to recognize so much about who I am and who I surround myself with. It helps me to appreciate each day of my life. I dropped the words into Wordclouds.com. It distilled my writing into this cool graphic.

This orange hibiscus is blooming on the shrub I overwinter in the house. She goes outdoors again in the spring. The succulent prints on the wall behind are from my digital imaging series. The gray digital matte is a great illusion that enhances the images. shop.maryahernartist.com/designer-pri...
