Theater Arts major who ended up as a computer programmer. Now retired. Embroidery, cats, and dogs keep me sane.

I don't respond to Chats/DMs from strangers.
Now that it has been gifted, the finished embroidery. Silk floss on linen. Trees and nest are stem stitch, birds are split stitch. Leaves are individual chain stitch, ala Lazy Daisy stitch.

Once the entire design has been outlined in running stitches, I carefully tear away all the Solvy stabilizer. I will draw over the running stitches with chalk in small bits, pull those stitches and then embroidery that section.

Step 4 Attached the Solvy to the black linen which is stretched taut in the hoop and basted it in place. Using a running stitch, stitch over all the lines to transfer the design to the fabric.

Step 2 If the printed design is nice and clear, you can skip tracing it to tracing paper, but since this one is quite dark and muddy, I traced the relevant parts.

Step 3 Trace the design using light colored ink to tearable/dissolvable stabilizer. I have used Solvy's Sulky.

Step 1 - copy the picture to Word and increase it to desired size, 10 inches across. Have to cut the picture in half to do this. Print, tape back together and then trace design.

With a Sharpie pen, draw over any areas that are ambiguous in the now black and white photo. 1/2

A friend has been offered elevation to the Order of the Pelican in the SCA.

She was gifted this medallion created by Earl Sir Brion ap Rhys, OL of Archeo Studies and she asked that I use the design for her mantle. Earl Sir Brion has graciously given me permission to recreate his design.

I have looked over the FebuArty prompts and my embroidery just doesn't fit any of the challenges.
Plus, embroidery takes a while to do, so there's no hope of coming up with something fast enough.

#JanuArty 29 "Curve". This was part of a project to make trim for 2 medieval garments. I led a team of 17 ladies, each embroidering .5 to 1 yard of this design. I did 1 yard plus a circle for the neck of one of the garments. Got to where I could draw this in my sleep.

#JanuArty Day 28 "Flat". Pushing the boundaries of "flat" with this, I suspect. It's a crazy quilt bag in process - took the picture of it while it's still flat and not shaped into a bag yet. Gift for my neighbor, a young woman who is so kind and helpful.

#JanuArty Day 27 "Red" A biscornu in various shades of red. Example for the class I was going to teach, but no one signed up for it. Oh well, it was fun to make. And for those not in the know, a biscornu is a fancy pin cushion.

#JanuArty Day 24 "Sweet". This embroidery was for a friend's baby's event/diaper bag. His name is Teddy and at the time, his parents were the King and Queen of Atenveldt (SCA). His father's heraldry includes a gold hammer, and the blue cross on the bandana is his mother's heraldry.

#JanuArty "Happy" This is the closest thing to happy I could find. Other than the fact that just doing embroidery makes me happy.

This little dude went on a quilt for a friend's 2 year old. Got the design from an on-line free coloring book if memory serves.

#JanuArty day 16 Clothing. A plain white shirt I embroidered for my mother. She fussed that I embroidered for everyone, but never for myself. So I made something for her. I can take a hint sometimes.

#JanuArty prompt "Animals". Two portraits I did for friends when their pet passed. Unfortunately, I only remembered to photograph the cat after I put it in a glass frame, so the picture is a bit fuzzy and you can see light reflecting off the glass.

#JanuArty day 12 "Pink". A pink dragon, part of a quilt for a 2 year old who loves dragon. Covid lock down project. I think I got the image from an on-line free coloring book. Can't draw to save my soul. 8th grade art teacher beat that skill out of me.

#JanuArty day 11. The closest thing to triangles I have is this Pelican in her Piety on a background of black triangles. This is worked in wool yarns which were a delight to work with. I do a lot of Pelican embroideries. Kind of known for that in my local group (SCA Kingdom of Atenveldt)

#Januarty day 10 "Blue". I have a friend who is a merchant in the Society for Creative Anachronism, Aurora's Treasures. I make chalice covers for her shop. They help keep the bugs out of your mead at outdoor events. The beads around the edges are to weight the cover so it drapes over the cup.

#Januarty day 8. This is the closest thing to "Tone" that I have done. Embroidery based on a gold sculpture in a cathedral somewhere in Europe. Will have to hunt the image down again to find which cathedral. Silk floss on black linen.

#Januarty Day 3 shapes

A small crazy quilt heart. Made it as a example of the art form since I was teaching classes on it.

And it's done! Shaming myself by posting the work in progress seems to have worked. That and falling and spraining my ankle so that I have no choice but to sit and embroider all day.

Current work in process (posted to shame me in to finishing it!). Pelican in her piety with Laurel Wreath for a fellow Scadian. These are the symbols for two of the highest awards in the Society for Creative Anachronism. Pelican for service, Laurel Wreath for the arts.

Freya at the animal shelter, scared and about to be euthanized. Freya after 5 years with me. She is dressed up to celebrate Lola the Showgirl's message about puppy mills. She crossed the Rainbow Bridge 2 years ago, and I still miss her very much.

Athena, the day she was rescued from starvation by a local dog rescue (2013) and then after 7 years with me. She crossed the Rainbow Bridge last year and I still miss her very much.
