![Call & Comment about EAC Proposal to Change Voting Requirements
The U.S. Election Assistance Commission (EAC)—a bipartisan agency created to help states run elections—is now considering a proposal that would require voters to show a passport or other proof of U.S. citizenship to register to vote. This echoes previous failed attempts, like the SAVE Act (good job calling about this over the summer!!) and a blocked executive order, to impose restrictive proof-of-citizenship rules.

Script for calling :
Hi, my name is [Your Name], and I’m a constituent from [City, Zip Code].
I’m calling to urge [Representative/Senator Name] to speak out against the U.S. Election Assistance Commission’s proposal to require proof of citizenship, like a passport, to register to vote. This policy would make it harder for millions of eligible Americans—especially students, women, and low-income voters—to register and participate in elections. Most Americans don’t have a passport, and states already verify citizenship effectively during registration.
This “show-your-papers” rule is unnecessary, burdensome, and would suppress legitimate voters. I’m asking [Representative/Senator Name] to publicly oppose this proposal and urge the EAC to reject it. Voting is a fundamental right, not a privilege.
