Me on my walk, the morning after it snowed a couple weeks ago. It’s melted now, but BOY was it cold that day. It did, however, give me a chance to wear my bright red scarf; I’ve only just learned, at the ripe old age of 57, that red looks good on me. Sigh. THAT would've been good information to have all those years I was slinking around wearing nothing but black… ANYWAY. A BRIEF version of what it was like, what happened, & what it's like now: I was born an alcoholic. My family tree is riddled with alcoholism.Started trying to QUIT drinking around age 19. Made a few half-hearted passes at a 12 Step program, but it wasn’t until a near miss suicide “thing” (not an attempt, but as close as I’ve come) and the first of 5 or 6 stays at a psychiatric facility that I made a serious effort. It didn’t take; I lasted a few months. Tried again, lasted two years. Then came my pitiful & incomprehensible demoralisation - 8 months in Chicago. I’ll skip the details. Suffice to say I ended up blind drunk on my second fifth of scotch in my favourite AOL chat room, announcing to them all that I was going to kill myself that night. Two people (who have been my friends ever since) got on the phone and talked to me till I passed out, then got someone to come get me the next day. That was November 22, 1996. I haven’t had a drink since. A week later I was back in California (ugh, long story, I’d lived there with my first ex-husband & moved back to Michigan, never mind, my life story is BYZANTINE), where I was homeless for 6 months, staying on couches & in spare rooms, going to meetings, till I could get a job & an apartment… 2 years later I was married with a son - who is now 25 with a Masters degree. In the interim I got MS, got divorced, survived it all… Watched my son play football for Michigan State, got on medication that’s put me in remission, gained & lost 100 pounds… And here I be. Sober 29 years; I was 28 when I quit drinking. Oh, and I was internet famous for a minute. Pfffft.🥸

Me, trying on my new Lions hat at Costco before I bought it. It’s Honolulu blue, with a Lions patch on the front and LIONS stitched into it in white around the hat - and a POM POM on top. I’ve wanted one FOREVER, bit couldn’t bring myself to pay the prices I saw online at various sites… but at COSTCO, it was THIRTEEN DOLLARS. How could I resist??? I love it so...

I love my KitchenAid mixer; a beloved gift from my beloved aunt, one I could NEVER have afforded myself, it’s cherry red & GORGEOUS. And I use it maybe a dozen times a year. It’s heavy & a pain in the ass to clean. It does a FABULOUS job, but ugh. Anyway, the meme - YES. That fucking potato masher CANNOT fit in the regular drawer without messing with the opening & closing of it. Which, of course, is why we have the DEEPER drawers. And THAT is where I keep mine, after YEARS of fruitless fighting with a fucking figure of fuckery. (Yeah, that was a REACH.) Anyway. Happy turkey day. Sorry about the stolen land & all the bullshit. I’m Irish, I can relate. I’m sure the Palestinians & a WHOLE bunch of other indigenous peoples can, as well. The history of humanity is just fucked up bullshit, man. Wednesday’s Post is Full of Woe

Well, Bluetopia… I have nothing good to say.

Me yesterday on my morning walk, during the first snow of the year. Freezing my ass off, but too vain to take the picture with the wool beanie on, so my hair is loose, a nice pale contrast against the green fir trees behind me. The red scarf looks good next to my VERY PINK SKIN - fucking cold, it was. It is definitely winter here in Traverse City, Michigan. At the No Kings protest on October 18th at the Civic Center in Traverse City. I’m wearing my Stevie Ray Vaughn black felt hat, looking very debonair for a radical hippie old person, waving my mini American flag. Lots of people waving signs behind me, watching someone speak. As usual, I couldn’t make out a WORD being said on the stage, but it didn’t matter, we weren’t there for the templated speeches... Taken in VERY dim light in my bedroom, hair up, minimal makeup - looking down to my left - really pretty picture - totally blurry skin, basically looks like a glamour boudoir shot but from the neck up. Still, it really is pretty, so I’ve kept it. Nothing much else to say about this... Ah - me & my amazing, beautiful, accomplished son, outside the stadium after his graduation ceremony getting his Masters degree at Michigan State last May. He’s working as an accredited counselor for the State of Michigan now, working with people with disabilities. (Gee, I wonder why he ended up going in that direction…) He lives in Detroit with his unofficial fiancee Sophie, who is in her second year of law school. They are both extraordinary people and it makes me so happy that I don’t have to worry about him any more than the ordinary amount that I always have… Anyway, there you have it. The traditional four panel selfie - it’s been a while, took longer between 40K and 45K than most of the rest of the milestones. We’ve slowed down. Not surprising. The algorithm seems to have shifted somehow. Not a problem; so have I. 😉

The idea was to “rizz” ourselves up, once upon a time. I post mine, you post yours, we tell each other how pretty we are.

Then it all went to shit; who had time or energy for it when the world was ending?

A sly little smile on my bare face, & I'm peeping through big ole specs like I’m a-flirtin’ witchoo... but no. I’ve just coloured my hair & am feeling very self-satisfied, that’s all, got it that perfect ash blonde/silver I WANT it to be, to blend in with the silver/grey that’s growing in. But it NEVER STAYS. It just keeps fading back to gold. There’s a metaphor there, some fucking perfect song lyric, I’m sure, if you’re a lyricist. Or a poet. Unfortunately, I am neither. I’m just a frustrated asshole who’s tried EVERYTHING to get this goddamned hair to STAY the colour she dyes it… Everything, of course, but paying a professional to do it. The last time I did that was in the early NINETIES, & it took three visits & over nine hundred dollars. Granted, we were correcting a horrendous bleach job I’d been inflicting on my hair for over 5 years… And my hair was LONG - just below my nipples (back when they weren’t parallel with my belly button). The length was “corrected", too, to my horror. Fuckers. Nobody approved THAT. SHOULDER LENGTH? You monsters. Anyway. I have an audition Monday for the Kathy Bates role in the stage version of “Misery” & I really want it to be MUCH closer to GREY. I figured that would be more appropriate than gleaming, golden BLONDE. But ash is the best I can do, short of spraying some fake shit on it. If I get the part I guess they can worry about it. Maybe a wig; but that might come off in the climactic (& might I add, incredibly violent & gory) fight scene. As for said audition: Not as excited about it now as I was a while ago. Read the script: she’s onstage pretty much the whole time & has about 75% of the lines. And it's not a LOWKEY role. I’m exhausted just THINKING about it. (Unlike “No Exit,” it’s not a limited run. It's 5 shows a week for 4 weeks - or 3, I can’t remember, but with my luck it’s 4. TWO on Sunday, if I’m not mistaken. Which is just madness. The fight scene alone would kill me ONCE a day…) I may not audition. We’ll see. Ugh.

Trump was filming yet another fucked up “press conference” in the Oval Office (something about making weight loss drugs more affordable - which is a fucking joke considering the giant leap millions of Americans’ health insurance premiums are about to make)…You’d have to ask someone who was watching. I make a point of NEVER watching or listening to that sack of rancid pus. It’s for my health. Even still photos of him raise my blood pressure; reading about the grotesque destruction he’s wreaking upon this country may yet give me a heart attack or a stroke. I am that overwhelmed with rage & despair in equal measure. I try to be fatalistic about it, to accept that, in actual fact, there is NOTHING I can do to change this situation. Watching videos of these ICE raids & kidnappings is doing nothing but making me sick. I go to the protests. If I had money, I’d give it. I am not so naive as to think that fucking around on social media is any sort of activism. It’s just cathartic - until it becomes the problem. Sometimes (often), it does. And when it does, I need to recognise that and TAKE A FUCKING BREAK. Getting better at that; I take little ones, go away for a few days at a time, sometimes even longer. But I also have to learn to NOT ENGAGE. There are few things more futile than ARGUING ON THE INTERNET. It is logorrheic masturbation, and I have had ENOUGH of that for a lifetime. So, anyway, yeah - another day, another “Hey, look what Trump did.” Sigh,

Well - except for the fact that he cited fictional pollsters, he’s actually right about the shutdown, to a degree. As for him not being on the ballot - this delusional bag of seeping pus lives in a delusion enabled and supported by his sycophantic dick suckers. His poll numbers are not the WORST they’ve ever been, at 39% approval… The worst was Truman at 22% followed by Nixon at 24%, and GWB at 25%. But Trump has HIS low poll numbers absent war & absent a Congress with teeth or a Fourth Estate doing anything remotely resembling its job. It’s fairly remarkable. They won't let me work. Without Medicare I can't afford the medication that has restored me to semi-functional status as someone with relapsing/remitting MS. They have me in a Catch-22; I take the medication, I get better enough to do stuff, I can earn some money - but if earn too much, I LOSE THE HELP with the Medicare that HELPS PAY FOR THE MEDICATION THAT MAKES ME ABLE TO DO THE STUFF THAT HELPS ME MAKE THE MONEY THAT DISQUALIFIES ME FOR THE HELP PAYING FOR THE MEDICARE THAT PAYS FOR THE MEDICATION THAT MAKES ME ABLE TO DO THE STUFF THAT MAKES ME ABLE TO MAKE THE MONEY THAT DISQUALIFIES ME TO GET THE HELP PAYING FOR THE MEDICARE THAT PAYS FOR THE MEDICATION THAT HELPS ME BE ABLE TO DO THE STUFF THAT... The picture of Charlie Kirk in question. It was accompanied with some "Consequences of your actions" meme. I've never heard of it. Is it celebrating Kirk's death? I don't know, could be. Eye of the beholder. Is that against the Community Guidelines, now? No - the communication says this constitutes violent or threatening speech, wishes of harm, encouragement of violence, etc. THAT, the meme most certainly des NOT. It's just a stupid, snide meme. Not my cup of tea - but it most certainly does NOT rise to the level of a BANNABLE OFFENSE on Bluesky. FOr fuck's sake, people have posted far worse here. Belgium turns old wind turbine blades into park benches & playground equipment. These massive fiberglass structures were headed to landfills but now they have a second life as stylish public furniture. The photo depicts a vibrant expanse of green park grass and people sitting on wind turbine blades converted to sleek, curvy benches. It really does look space-agey and sophisticated as all get-out. And what a COOL way ti repurpose something so massive, that would otherwise just sit in a landfill. I am so impressed. It reminds me of that country that was making asphalt out of chopped up old tires and other plastics too difficult to recycle. Whatever happened with that? I thought for sure that would catch on. It was brilliant. I always assumed it turned out to be prohibitively expensive (gods forbid we pay extra money to save the fucking planet) or even worse for the environment, somehow... I'm going to look that up. Every time I think about it it bothers me I don't know what happened with that. Anyway - these turbine blades look super cool. I bet one day the US will have innovation again. If we don't kills ourselves off, or cut ourselves off from the rest of the world, Gilead-style. FUCK. I am so depressed.
