Year XXVI covering the NFL & year XXI chronicling the Broncos, now for DenverSports.com. I rouse less rabble than I once did, but perhaps I should change that?

Broncos RB J.K. Dobbins, on the win at Philly: "It was not a surprise to us. I've been mentioning that we're a tough team ... We're showing that we're physically tough, but we weren't at championship level of mentally tough, right? Well, we showed the mental tough game today."

Last season in Week 18, but that doesn't really count.

Before that, it would be in Week 8 of the 2023 season against KC at home.

When is the last time the Broncos beat the reigning champs?

J.K. Dobbins says that the mental toughness the Broncos needed to win was forged in part by the experience of the close losses in September.

“I’m the type of person, I don’t count losses as a loss. I count it as a stepping stone.”

Good teams win ugly games.

There's gonna be people saying this doesn't mean anything, but this was everything we kept asking for. Bo doing what he needed to do in crunch time, the defense and special teams stepping up. Yes, it was ugly at times - that's the Super Bowl champs on the other side. But it was a statement win!

Sean Payton on going for two: Team was playing for the win, wanted to keep being aggressive and he had some calls that he moved. Said the only call he regretted was the final third down before the FG

Take out the two-minute drill drives today for the Broncos and you have:

29 runs
33 pass plays

Broncos 21, Eagles 17 — FINAL

A statement win. A statement quarter. The miscues of the 3Q erased & overcome. Bo Nix was pinpoint late. The offense stuck with the run. The defense came up with the late stops it hadn’t. A signature rally. This changes everything.

Denver is 3-2.

Tyler Badie questionable to return (shoulder)

Saquon Barkley with the illegal shift that takes the fourth-down conversion off the board. Wow. Eagles shooting themselves in the foot.

Broncos have a chance to close this out. 5:00 to go, ball at their 31 after a terrible Braden Mann punt. Eagles have three timeouts.

Broncos GET THE TWO-POINT CONVERSION -- Nix moves right and hits Franklin.

18-17, Broncos. After three tepid quarters, they've come alive in the fourth and have the lead. Not too shabby

TOUCHDOWN -- Nix to Engram, 11 yards.

Fantastic sequence for the Broncos. They get out of third-and-15 when Nix hits Sutton to the right, taking advantage of Quinton Mitchell slipping, and Engram scores one play later.

Broncos going for 2.

Completely different Broncos team this quarter

McGlinchey back in the game

Defense comes up huge there, aided by an Eagles holding penalty to start the series. Three-and-out when it was most needed.

And there you go, it's a one-score game. Broncos haven't let the run-pass balance get out of whack today; take out the two-minute hurry-up drives late in the second quarter and the team has 23 runs and 23 pass plays.

McGlinchey walks off the field under his own power, headed for the blue medical tent with Broncos medical personnel. Alex Palczewski checks in for him.

This game is like the Chiefs game in KC in 2023.

It felt like the Broncos were down by 28, but they were one TD from being completely back in that game -- and they did, getting within 16-8. Same thing here.

First time the Broncos have been inside the Philadelphia 35 today
masedenver.bsky.social

masedenver.bsky.social
Crawshaw with his second mis-hit of the game; 3.30 seconds of hang time on that one. 44 yards gross, 28 yards net after the 16-yard return.

Didn't have time to update my drive stats this week, sorry

Coming into today, five teams had more penalty yards this season than the Broncos (290 through four games). One of them was Philadelphia (291).
