I make things, including bike rides, state housing laws, bread, and trouble. Quality varies with rainfall, political winds, and tire pressure. Run comms at @cayimby for the love of cities.
since it's a play argument anyway, i'd note that part of the objective of the fascist/Confederate party is the dissolution and insolvency of the former United States. So, burning mountains of cash on a pile of jackboots is, through that lens, pretty good strategy, IMO. feature, not bug.

if a fascist commits fraud in a fascist regime with a fascist court and fascist duma, is it still fraud? I think we (you and me) may have an observer bias problem here

A Modest Proposal for the Berkeley City Council
The City clearly has goals for its streets. It should state them clearly.

convinced that "healing the divide" is some modernization of a Confederate/KKK propaganda campaign designed to make Americans think Confederate traitors are "just like us"

(IOW, I'd expect epic travel/lodging/meal expenses, along with overtime and armament requisition, as a baseline)

they have $95 billion to spend by 2029, and gauging by the level of competency demonstrated by current ICE management I think they'll struggle to get it all out the door.

It doesn't. And also, it's a shibboleth in any case. The city can decide, on any given day, to use its existing repaving budget for complete streets. Public Works routinely lies and says safety measures cost too much, and Council believes them.

I believe they admitted it was tied to Waymo as client.

It's claiming I have a free account even though I'm logged in through my Apple account, which bills me monthly for ChatGPT plus. So, I have no access to any services except the basic chat. I hadn't checked in a while.

multiple points of failure, much of it inside Public Works IMO but council can/should still be exerting itself more forcefully on safety. They're absent from design decisions, which is a mistake given the staffing problems. I literally gave a copy of "Killed by a Traffic Engineer" to the Mayor.

"We didn't know that FF could be used on the rest of Hopkins" yeah, there is simply no way that's a credible argument. Sophie Hanh single-handedly bullied multiple city staff out of their entire jobs over this issue.
