If anyone in power really cared about not repeating the 2008 crash then the only rational action would be to prevent banks being too big to fail.
That didn't happen, ergo no-one in power cares.

Before Brexit, the UK was tied to EU rules that stopped governments from handing out public money to big companies just to boost their profits in SEZs. It was called “State aid”, regulations designed to keep things fair and prevent a race to the bottom.
