I just had a letter box delivered... Which uses up my irony budget for the week.

It turns out it's really hard to draw #Isometric paper by hand.

My teacher always told me I wouldn't walk around with a protractor in my pocket, and it turns out she was right.

In other news, I might have discovered a new #OEIS

Spoiler: 1, 6, 18, 45, 87

I do love it when I am browsing the #OEIS and I find a comment that was within the last few weeks. Oddly titillating to know that someone else passed this way so recently.

Another lovely night playing "conservation of energy" with my daughter. The box says 8+ but I would easily give it a 10/10.

For any polygon, the maximum number of diagonals that can intersect at a point (that is not the centre) is 7.

Possibly my fact for episode 7 of #Un-NaturalNumbers

The people asked for a poem written by #Boethius, so I will provide a poem by Boethius. If you want to hear me read this, then check out this week's #TheMathematiciansPodcast for an episode of philosophy, theology and maths.

Just had a fantastic evening recording episode 6 of #Un-NaturalNumbers, the maths chat show. Really looking forward to it coming out next week

Here's a sneaky peak.

Christmas Decs are already in the shops. Anyone want to play a game of "Reverse Mechanical Linkages"?

A contentious opinion:

A4 #origami is superior to square form, as you can connect two A4 sheets for a 41% larger di-tonal construction.

1:1 ratios can suck it

At some point I need to stop pretending that I am teaching my daughter maths, and just admit that I like #Duplo

So, I'm thinking that Pappus of Alexandria is the first recorded bit of Mansplaining.

Here he is trying to tell the lecturer Pandrosion how to do geometry.

Sadly this is one of the only references to one of the 4 female Mathematicians before Hypatia. And it leads me to call him Papp-ass

Hey. Guess who very nearly has made it onto the front page of apple podcasts 'Mathematics' list. It's #TheMathematiciansPodcast.

Watch out @timharford.ft.com , I only need to get a few million more downloads weekly to steal top billing.

Admittedly this "more" is multiplicative not additive.

My mini-bag of skittles had 17 skittles in it with 4 colour options. AM I THE ONLY SANE PERSON LEFT IN THIS WORLD?!?

If I say:
Any square (4*4 or 8*8) may be rotated by 90 degrees, if the pieces are fully enclosed in the square.

Is it possible to sort all the greens to the left and reds to the right?

Here is my Duplo castle. Can anyone suggest some Duplo based maths that I can use to enhance my daughters play time?

So I am camping with a second hand gas canister. I have not been told how full it is, or how many hours of cooking it should last.

I can hear a 'slosh' when I shake it.

What mathematical steps would you take to estimate how many kettles I can boil?

Potential fact for episode 4 of #Un-NaturalNumbers .

I spent most of my final minutes before falling asleep last night trying to think of a 3 digit Harshad number.

This gives a deeper insight into the rule of divisibility by 3.

And this just happened to be published in the month that I needed it.

Just brushing up on my knot theory ahead of #Un-NaturalNumbers the maths chat show all about numbers.

Tomorrow we record episode 3, on the number 3. And I am planning to talk on knot theory.

See if you can find the significance, and whilst you wait have a go at this

My #probability #starter for today's lesson:

If I roll 2 dice numbered (0,n) and place them next to each other, we can check if they are prime. But for what value 0

I just downloaded my own pdf of The Principia, this has given me a curious feeling, like reading a religious text. Below is B 1, S 5, L 17: where I will be making the case that Newton is citing Apollonius for his work on Conics.

I will also submit this as a great example of #mathart

Here we have 8 solutions to the Apollonius problem. Given any 3 circles, draw a fourth that is at a tangent to each.
