Season 5 of Slow Horses is even sillier than the others

They have, but I'm inclined to think that this kind of mindset is what led them to neglect the important stuff - which they still haven't fixed - in the first place.

Launch day for the paperback of my book, The Mysterious Case of the Victorian Female Detective!

Humbug notes that it makes excellent bedtime reading.

Do you have a book club or local literary/historical society? I could drop by & give a talk or answer questions.

Will be doing a giveaway too.

That curious social media trend which I can only sum up as:

Me: Look at this amazing car.
You: Look at this horrible car crash

Me: I like this person from history.
You: He was a cunt.

Really needs to stop.

I've never seen it either!

Ah, I love fo'c'sle. What a word. What a spelling.
mathewlyons.bsky.social
Oh I love that. I've never read any… I think I should!

I don't think I'd dare drop in an 'I'd've'. Although, now I look at it, it does look rather wonderful.
mathewlyons.bsky.social
Flannery O'Connor does that? I thought it was a contemporary Brit thing.

Actually 'could of' for 'could have' is the one that really breaks out the cold sweat
mathewlyons.bsky.social
I'm not sure you hear it all that much but I think it's well understood. I don't know that I've seen it written down. (I have a very old-fashioned aversion to seeing slangy abbreviations written as spoken - wanna, gonna, gimme, coulda, et al.)
mathewlyons.bsky.social
Thanks! I don't know either of those.

If you want to get into Buster Keaton movies (a worthwhile use of one’s limited time on earth), would recommend The Goat, followed by Sherlock Jr., as your way in. youtu.be/_6kE2JfkJ1c
