Former HS Math teacher looking for my next role. I write about math, education, music, food, parenting, travel, tinkering... all with a side of snarkiness, sarcasm and self-deprecation.
I have been 1 of 2 independent contractors for a curriculum company for the past yr+.
Most of my work was for a Sr curriculum specialist but recently have been doing more work for their boss (the curriculum manager).
I was asked to do tasks by both & was trying to figure out which to prioritize...

My former workwife left to teach at a boarding school- it's definitely an all encompassing life experience. She wasn't a huge fan but did allow them to save a fair amount of $$.

This one is in Aspen. Which is GORGEOUS but also ridiculous touristy & insanely expensive (I say this having lived in SF)

In 1916, Denmark sold the Danish West Indies to the USA, with the colony becoming the US Virgin Islands.
In this transaction
1) the USA acknowledged Denmark's complete sovereignty over Greenland
2) one of the islands invovled would eventually be bought by a certain wealthy pedophile

A 14 year old girl, in hiding, wrote this in her in her diary.

Day in the life.

Homemade dinner (smoked chicken shawarma).

Kiddo was frustrated with mixed number subtraction so we did some practice with that (I just said "I don't like mixed numbers..." and he was off and running)

Random games (not show, we settled on Hold Em and a daddy whiskey)

Purty.

I might have a problem... although to be fair, I do use them all.

I have somebody who is supposed to buy the one on the right and another smaller one one this weekend.

Before, with my new (to me) knife, that cost more than the smoker.

The knife wasn't cheap, but mainly bc the smoker was a ridiculous deal.

I got a new-to-me smoker that has wifi and an app...
It's fan didn't sound happy, so I replaced that, now I'm doing a test run to see if it works & if the temperature of the built in thermocoupler is consistent with my probe.
So far so good.
Looking like chicken shawarma will be a go for dinner.

My MiL gave me this creamer as a present.
Not my cup of... coffee(?) but I have so many questions

"add 2 tbsp" but a serving size is 1 tsp?

By volume the 2nd column is 6x the 1st
By weight its 7x the 1st

Yet the columns don't align at all.
Calories & Potassium *9
Sodium *infinity
The rest *4-7

SF of old was a special mish-mash place...

Yeah, AP really likes them labeled (probably a good idea to keep things organized anyway).

I always emphasized only including what is given on each, ie drawing straight lines on f' to indicate general shape/ slope, (this also helps provide insight on which critical numbers were mins vs maxes.

But have you looked at a globe recently? It's yuuuge.

I use FB to buy things on marketplace and periodically check memories... This, fittingly, was a memory from today

A Voronoi diagram!!!

The closest NFL playoff team stadium to each county in the lower 48.

What do you notice/wonder?

(I didn't make it, nor know how they made a county divide vs a line... but still...

I notice that the Bears boundary looks like Ohio.

Math properties take on English grammar.

Happy Friday.

So the US can't figure out law enforcement interactions with peaceful protesters, when language isn't a barrier, without violence... and we're expecting foreigners to come here and attend the world cup games this summer?

We don't deserve nice things.

@seanteachesmath.bsky.social are mallard ducks known for group spiralling? Is duck-duck-goose somehow based on this circling behavior?
January 6, 2026 at 9:21 PM
When my wife came home today there was a second smoker in the backyard.

I plead the fifth.

(It was $150 on Marketplace... new they retail for over $3k. I'll likely flip it or keep it and sell mine).

Is the Cocaine series now a reality show where they move from city to city??

I'm guessing season 1, "The Cocaine Bear", took place in the Castro (SF) and season 2 is now in... Texas?

(I also have zero idea what you're talking about and feel like this image might be required... )

I had to google mine... The word "slapdash" originated in the late 17th century from the combination of the words slap and dash, meaning to do something quickly and carelessly.

Very little in my life is done slapdash-edly.
