Former HS Math teacher looking for my next role. I write about math, education, music, food, parenting, travel, tinkering... all with a side of snarkiness, sarcasm and self-deprecation.
Pinned
Over my last 7yrs in the classroom I wrote guided, student centric lessons for all of Alg2, PC & AB Calc

Nothing overly creative, pretty standard curriculum/concepts, but it got students to engage with the material & make connections without explicit teacher instruction

In 1916, Denmark sold the Danish West Indies to the USA, with the colony becoming the US Virgin Islands.
In this transaction
1) the USA acknowledged Denmark's complete sovereignty over Greenland
2) one of the islands invovled would eventually be bought by a certain wealthy pedophile

Apparently something happened recently as "The Beckhams" are appearing on my various feeds

I accidentally clicked on 1 while scrolling, so I'll share with you what i learned: Brooklyn is their son.

I knew a woman named Brooklyn so I though it was a girls name, but nope, its unisex.

You're welcome

Timothy Broglio, the Archbishop responsible for the pastoral care of US military personnel is on record saying that Catholic members of the armed forces could in good conscience consider disobeying orders to attack Greenland if such orders were issued.

Jesus.

Exclamation of exasperation intended.

Whats the offensive equivalent to the prevent defense?

What are the odds...

In both games of the NFL Championship round both- a head coach named Mike is favored over a head coach named Sean.

Broncos (Sean) vs Patriots (Mike) -5.5
Seahawks (Mike) -2.5 vs Rams (Sean)

Hey @cnet.com , two things I know a fair amount about, coffee and math.

While I agree with the premise of this article, the "golden ratio" is already a thing.

φ, ~1.61, has been around in math, science, art... for thousands of years.

Maybe you could use the brown or mud water ratio instead?
Coffee Experts Determined the Perfect Brewing Balance, and It's Called the 'Golden Ratio'
This is the easiest way to make sure your coffee tastes the same every single morning.

Wait, was the OT of the Bears-Rams exactly the same as the Broncos -Bills?

First possession, punt.
Second possession, driving, looking good, interception.
Field goal.

No skin in this game, but that was ridiculous....drop back 30 yards then loft it up and the defender completely loses coverage.... Insane

Friendly rule reminder -

When making a catch while going to the ground, the receiver has to maintain control through contact with the ground.

A 14 year old girl, in hiding, wrote this in her in her diary.

Denmark- help us, help us.

Sell Greenland to the US with the stipulation that the US implements Denmark’s comprehensive social welfare system, a universal model, that provides comprehensive, tax-funded benefits like free healthcare & education for all citizens.

Great, thanks.

How to divide a number by 5.

Double the number.
Move the decimal place one unit to the left.

You're welcome.

4283/5

8566
856.6

It's *magic*

(and i'm sure it has nothing to do with the fact that 5=10/2 😜)

Day in the life.

Homemade dinner (smoked chicken shawarma).

Kiddo was frustrated with mixed number subtraction so we did some practice with that (I just said "I don't like mixed numbers..." and he was off and running)

Random games (not show, we settled on Hold Em and a daddy whiskey)

For non-German speakers:

“Dear media, I can’t stand the headline "No agreement between the US and Denmark” any longer. If an armed man storms a bank, you don't run the headline: "Robber and cashier can't reach an agreement on money transfer." Stop framing imperial aggression as normal diplomacy.”

I got a new-to-me smoker that has wifi and an app...
It's fan didn't sound happy, so I replaced that, now I'm doing a test run to see if it works & if the temperature of the built in thermocoupler is consistent with my probe.
So far so good.
Looking like chicken shawarma will be a go for dinner.

Apparently my sons (5th grade) class is going "on strike"

On numerous occasions the T has claimed they will get a reward if they do something.
Supposedly they have done the thing & then T makes an excuse as to why they don't get the thing.

No idea what "strike" means to them, but i'm here for it

My MiL gave me this creamer as a present.
Not my cup of... coffee(?) but I have so many questions

"add 2 tbsp" but a serving size is 1 tsp?

By volume the 2nd column is 6x the 1st
By weight its 7x the 1st

Yet the columns don't align at all.

The rest *4-7

I have a bag of chicken nuggets in the freezer for when I'm too lazy to make dinner for the kid, there's something quick and easy to whip up.

Truth be told, I eat them way more often when he's out and I'm too lazy to make myself food...

Now Im curious, how many hall of fame quarterbacks had the last pass of their career
a) intercepted?
b) intercepted and returned for a touchdown?
c) intercepted and returned for a touchdown in a playoff loss?

Perfidious - deliberately faithless, treacherous, deceitful, and untrustworthy, often involving betraying trust, vows, or obligations.

To recap- we are officially now a nation of corporate greed and destruction.

It's not about the citizens, their health or quality of life.
It's about the bottom dollar and big industry.

Lovely.

Sorry kiddo...
