HoD maths in London. CTeach, NPQLT, NPQSL, MA. Basically I love T&L and research. And KS3 and transition. And maths.
Wider edusky I don't know, but for maths we're quite lively on a few hashtags. It helps there's a lot of reposting of each other to help things get seen and talked on.

Our CEO was very firm that everyone in our Trust get this day, even if you're part time and would be off anyway you get another day.

This is so cool. It solves my pen heavy lanyard.

The thing is, I know we do all that. It's baked into SoL in yr 8. Somehow my yr 11 had a mental block on it.

I'm wondering if maybe there's a physical object I could use to help them feel it. (For future students)

They are fine with that bit but they just didn't have that internal concept linked to the numbers. I'm going to go on a journey through our SoL because our F students do well on it but our H students do not. Which doesn't make sense.

Thank you! They will love this. I have two doing the AEA and they keep looking for even more maths to do.

I do that back in yr 8 when we first do it but I think we probably don't give enough love to the rule concept (at least by me). Going to ponder my SoL tomorrow.

For a lot of the class I could see that the idea actually was clicking. They still need practice, particularly around negatives, but building up what a line actually does meant that finding the equation was less abstract for them.

You'd have to define what you intend by a mastery curriculum first - there's too many different interpretations of it. If you've been using V2 for a while, look at your ks4 topic analysis. Are there are areas that the WR is not serving your context well in?

It's not teachers wearing capes, it's the on call system staff - you call to have a student collected and Batman comes.

Sidenote: wonder if there's a different impact of different heroes. I can imagine Batman having a bigger impact than Spiderman for some reason.

I use your method 2. I used to do the standard two brackets and dabbled with the boxes, but found students got very confused so I keep those as back ups.

I swapped over to it a few years ago and it's a game changer because it gives a reason for the AC bit and also kind of why you don't multiply the b.
