I'm finally starting this project to watch the entire Touchstone Pictures filmography (every film associated with the Disney label whether through production or distribution) from 1984-2016 & share my thoughts on each release in this thread. Follow along as I revisit the hits, misses & obscurities.

At the time Allen & Midler, the reigning Queen of Touchstone, playing a married couple might’ve seemed like a hit comedy recipe but Paul Mazursky’s talky play on Scenes from a Marriage never fully works. Watching a film that mostly takes place in a shopping mall is a welcomed nostalgia trip though.

While I’ve since seen SPEED a number of times theatrically, my first time was at home when it premiered on HBO in May of 1995 and nothing could’ve primed me better for it than the old HBO First Look featurette hosted by Dennis Hopper himself.

Bill Mather’s hauntingly beautiful matte painting of Gotham City for BATMAN RETURNS (1992). Flawless.
A snow-covered Gotham skyline at nighttime with the Gotham Zoo in the foreground. Black space in the middle of painting for projection.

Peter Weir wrote & directed this romcom specifically as a vehicle for Depardieu to reach English-speaking audiences & it paid off. It’s a sweet, simple romance built on a thin premise but the chemistry of its leads lands the plane. Plus I'm always happy to see Robert Prosky pop up in anything.

ACTION is wildly underrated and I believe it could’ve had a much longer life on HBO.

Powdered Toast Man doesn’t have what it takes.

These specials really got me in interested in the behind the scenes process of filmmaking. They were like the precursor to DVD extras.

Waterworld was great. There should’ve been more Waterworlds.

WYWS is very high up there for me as well.

Yeah, his shittiness tainted the legacy of this for me. But it does make NYC life look like a dream for sure!

She was excellent in this as well!

I was thinking the same thing. Within the first few scenes I clocked the score. The master doesn’t disappoint.
