Trump: We track Santa. We want to make sure that Santa is being good. We want to make sure that he's not infiltrated, that we're not infiltrating into our country a bad Santa. Santa loves Oklahoma like I do. You know, Oklahoma was very good to me in the election

PSA: Apache Guacamole added in 1.6.0 arm64 support to their official container images for guacamole and guacd, if you plan on upgrading an arm64 deployment to 1.6 you should also consider switching to the official images (which might not be a simple drop-in replacement, YMMV)

Notes on iOS 26.2 just glitched real bad when bulk deleting all quick notes: it applied the bulk command to all quick notes *and the notes belonging to the group underneath it* which, in my case, happened to be *ALL ICLOUD NOTES*.

Luckily they ended up in "Recently deleted", but seriously WTF?!?

The US TikTok sale has been signed. The company will be controlled by a joint venture including Oracle, Silver Lake, Andreessen Horowitz, Abu Dhabi-based MGX. Adding a UAE company really makes it clear that this was never about national security concerns.

Scoop: TikTok signs deal for sale of U.S. unit after yearslong saga
The deal would end a yearslong saga to force TikTok's Chinese parent ByteDance to sell the company's U.S. operation.

A relative of my mother was captured by the nazis as a political prisoner in Italy and sent to camp, when the Allies were closing in on it the guards shoved him and other inmates in a crematorium *alive*. He survived only because the bastards got what they deserved before they could burn them.

My coworkers' typical bad day: "huh, there's something wrong with the manifest, let's check and fix the deployment"
My typical bad day: "huh, the entire I/O subsystem has slowed down to a crawl, let me... WHAT THE HELL?!? SENSE b/4b/04?!? Oh god, here goes another disk backplane..."

I read some jackass arguing that LLM-produced slop may have semantic meaning "inherited" from the training dataset even though the LLM itself has no awareness in the strict sense of the term and just reacts to token weights, and sure enough he works at NVIDIA.

Classic.

“In a decade, Pichai said that it'll be normal to build extraterrestrial data centers”.

And he’s definitely not the only one speaking about the *necessity* of data centers in space. Apparently the planet is not big enough for their scaling “laws”.

Sundar Pichai says Google will start building data centers in space, powered by the sun, in 2027
Google announced Project Suncatcher earlier this month. CEO Sundar Pichai now says it could begin building data centers in space as soon as 2027.

The hell it isn't, Die Hard is *THE* Christmas movie.

You can't beat the Christmas spirit of "NOW I HAVE A MACHINE GUN. HO-HO-HO" written in blood on the sweater of a dead terrorist.

pre-writing a devastating obituary for your enemy is god-tier hating of a kind you don’t often see anymore. renaissance haterism. beautiful stuff.
A Sharon Begley byline, almost 5 years after her death.

Upon hearing the news James Watson had died, a STAT reporter said in our Slack, "I wish I could read what Sharon would have written."

Incredible news: Sharon in fact did pre-write a Watson obit. And it is masterful and excoriating.

Sone other open source communities should really take note on how to handle anti-DEI demands by donors or "prominent community members".

Kudos to the PSF for doing the right thing, shame on the US Government for trying to take us back to darker times.
TLDR; The PSF has made the decision to put our community and our shared diversity, equity, and inclusion values ahead of seeking $1.5M in new revenue. Please read and share. pyfound.blogspot.com/2025/10/NSF-...

📣THREAD: It’s surprising to me that so many people were surprised to learn that Signal runs partly on AWS (something we can do because we use encryption to make sure no one but you–not AWS, not Signal, not anyone–can access your comms).

It’s also concerning. 1/
PSA: we're aware that Signal is down for some people. This appears to be related to a major AWS outage. Stand by.
