If nothing else, it's less math on the players, as you know pretty immediately if you roll at or over your THAC0, unless you're facing a badass monster, you almost certainly hit.

The more I play D&D the more I think that THAC0 was honestly easier.

The old Magic the Gathering novels are better than they have any right to be

Pluto on Netflix is highly worth watching, definitely the best anime they've ever picked up.

@tomsonn2015.bsky.social Beyond Trench Crusade, do you play any other miniature games?
January 17, 2025 at 4:44 AM
@mrthefalcon.bsky.social How do you feel about Trilemma Adventures? How good are they seem at being dropped into a long term campaign in a pinch or do they require some setup?
January 17, 2025 at 4:43 AM
@t5un4m1.bsky.social Also what games are you playing in your five day marathon?
January 17, 2025 at 4:41 AM
@t5un4m1.bsky.social in regards to the magical item stuff, unfortunately they are pricy but the old TSR Encyclopedia Magica are worth it if you can pick them up.

I also think one of the official Mork Borg zines, Fecundity maybe, has a good section.

@edifice-head.bsky.social incredible work on the miniatures! Painting is the one rpg skill i really struggle with so I'm always impressed by others work.

@cicatrician.bsky.social

Are you more of a manga guy or anime guy? Or just interested in One Piece in general?
January 13, 2025 at 4:43 PM
@maxkweaver.bsky.social

What medium(s) do you use for your art?

It all looks cool, in particular I liked the Gregori piece.
January 13, 2025 at 4:41 PM
I really am beginning to have the theory that I don't really like anime in general, I just like the stuff that Tatsunoko was involved with in some way, or the OVA culture that used to exist. There are likely some exceptions to this, but the more time goes on, the more that seems to ring true.

Been burning through Gatchaman recently, it's shockingly good for the era it came out in

It just seems like such a disconnect. Also the shackles of the Assassin's Creed metaplot stuff really seem to hold this game back. I'd love a big budget viking game, or any historical setting really, but there doesn't seem to be much hunger from developers to make it.
January 11, 2025 at 9:05 PM
Minor thing, but the fact that I'm a viking and can't kill innocent villagers seems pretty silly, I know we're trying to show the protagonist as a good guy, but if we wanted that, maybe don't make a game about a culture best known for raiding and pillaging?
January 11, 2025 at 9:04 PM
I don't know what I expected from an Assassin's Creed game but I thought that Valhalla would be more ... idk, viking-y
January 11, 2025 at 9:03 PM
Really appreciate the style of Edgar Rice Burroughs' Mars series extraterrestrial fauna: it's like the stuff on earth, but with way more limbs.
January 11, 2025 at 12:41 AM
@elifelau.bsky.social Are you psyched for the Innistrad Remastered set? Any particular standouts you're looking forward to?
January 11, 2025 at 12:40 AM
@reginahart.bsky.social How did the switch from Electric Bastionland to DCC go? I've never ran EB, have read it, but have ran DCC a ton, and they seem significantly different in terms of game feel.
January 11, 2025 at 12:39 AM
@krillinfan.bsky.social I see that you play Canadian Highlander, so this may not apply, but what are your thoughts of the Psychic Frog ban in Legacy?

So looking forward to getting my hands on these 400 pages of pure LotFP-OSR-D&D-able goodness.
(I have some of them as PDFs but, frankly, printed on paper they're much easier to use)

Like the fact that there's entire films, books, video games, etc., that just vanish in this age of the internet is wild to me.
January 11, 2025 at 12:29 AM
Fascinated by how even in this modern age we can still lose significant pieces of media.
