Learning the names of those killed in yesterday’s act of terror brings home the nature of the affront to Jewish life in Britain.

Adrian Daulby and Melvin Cravitz – men who doubtless led rich lives.

Murdered simply because they were Jews.

May their memories be a blessing.

Alongside ongoing efforts to further refine our evidence base, work is taking place on a holistic policy package that will deal with the legacy of existing unsold and uncontracted S106 units and prevent the problem recurring.

While there are positive signs of an increasing appetite among Registered Providers to take on S106 homes in the wake of the steps we took in the Spending Review to rebuild the sector’s capacity, there remains a legacy problem that must be dealt with.
matthewpennycookmp.bsky.social
These include Registered Providers’ constrained financial capacity to purchase stock; a dwindling appetite among them to take on the management requirements of S106 units; and concerns, both perceived and real, about the standard, size and price of available Section 106 homes.

The build up of thousands of unsold and uncontracted S106 homes is the result of a wide range of complex factors.
matthewpennycookmp.bsky.social
This deeply unsatisfactory state of affairs is not only impacting on affordable housing delivery but also disrupting wider housing supply.

Estimates vary but it is not in dispute that thousands of unsold and uncontracted S106 units have built up across England over recent years.

This government inherited serious challenges in respect of Section 106 housing delivery and we continue to wrestle with them.

This confirms just how far the Tory Party has fallen.

This reckless anti-science stance is a clear risk to jobs, investment and future generations.

We warmly welcome all 12 of the locations recommend by the Taskforce with Tempsford, Crews Hill and Leeds South Bank looking particularly promising.

We are today commencing a SEA to support final decisions on precisely which sites will be taken forward.

To accelerate housing delivery and unlock economic growth, this Labour government will build the next generation of new towns.

High-quality, well-designed, sustainable, and liveable communities – we’re determined to have spades in the ground on at least three in this Parliament.

We promised we would get Britain building.

That’s exactly what we’re doing.
matthewpennycookmp.bsky.social
In our Plan for Change we promised to rebuild Britain by fast-tracking planning decisions on major economic infrastructure.

We’ve delivered on that promise - giving the green light to the largest number of such projects in the first year of any parliament.

As our manifesto rightly argued, Palestinian statehood is the inalienable right of the Palestinian people.

The UK government has acted today to protect the viability of the two-state solution by formally recognising the State of Palestine.

Yesterday’s planning application statistics were disappointing but we are seeing clear green shoots.

Even accounting for the serious delivery challenges in London, Q2 figures released today show housing starts up 29% compared to last year.

We’re getting Britain building again.

This government is determined not only to build more homes, but to build them better and faster.

We want to see innovative small and medium-sized housebuilders thrive and the uptake of Modern Methods of Construction continue to grow.

Swift bricks are a vital means of arresting the long-term decline of the breeding swift population. While coverage is increasing, the government want to do more to drive up swift brick installation. I recently set out our plans in the Commons:

To deliver homes at the scale, pace and quality England needs, we need to embrace Modern Methods of Construction.

Good to visit Edaroth in Bradford this afternoon to see the high-quality, net zero MMC homes the company are delivering with social and affordable housing providers.
Matthew Pennycook MP, Minister of State for Housing and Planning, visits Edaroth’s Bradford factory to learn more about the delivery of high-quality, net zero homes for social and affordable housing providers.
