Democracy works better with Approval Voting. What the Forward Party of Utah and @electionscience.bsky.social have done contributes to the groundwork for a democracy that's more resistant to authoritarianism while giving us better candidates, more choices and better outcomes.
The Utah State Senate 11 election was a landmark: the first state-level race decided by Approval Voting (AV) & a majority-digital ballot. 44.6% approved more than one candidate, proving AV elects broadly acceptable, low-polarization leaders. Congrats Senator Elect Emily Buss!

Approval voting works better than any other method for stopping authoritarian takeovers. There's no spoiler effect. No vote splitting. No strategic voting. It simply can't be gamed. Broad appeal is the name of the game, and if you don't have it, you aren't getting elected.

We need this everywhere.
The verdict is in for the St. Louis Mayoral Race! Approval Voting works as intended: 1/3 of voters supported multiple candidates, showing a nuanced electorate and clear coalition patterns invisible under traditional voting. https://felixsargent.com/democracy/2025/08/29/st-louis-approval-voting.html
