Big news: The Trump administration has essentially proposed shutting down tribal colleges and universities, displacing more than 20,000 students.

My latest for ProPublica:
propublica.org
NEW: A nearly 90% funding cut proposed by the Trump administration would likely shut down and devastate the 37 tribal colleges and universities created to serve the students disadvantaged by the nation’s historic mistreatment of Indigenous communities.

ICE has hit three homeless shelters in the last week. All shelters that were set up to serve migrants.

So they forced people to move to Chicago, Chicago stood up shelters to support migrants, and the feds use those shelters as targets for their kidnapping.

NEW: The Chicago Headline Club — the local chapter of the @spj-posts.bsky.social — has released a statement condemning ICE attacks on reporters.

In recent days, ICE has shot journalists in the face with pepper balls, assaulted journalists, and detained a reporter in Chicago.
Attacks and targeting of journalists by ICE must stop immediately!

The Board of Directors of the Chicago Headline Club condemns the targeting

of journalists, reporters and photographers covering protests outside the ICE facility in Broadview, Illinois by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers and other federal agencies.

The Headline Club is calling for ICE, Customs and Border Protection and others

assigned to Operation Midway Blitz to stop this practice immediately. The Headline Club is aware of incidents of journalists being shot intentionally with bean

bags, chemical munitions and at least one working journalist being taken into custody on Saturday, Sept. 27, 2025.

Journalists have a constitutionally-protected right to cover stories as afforded by the

First Amendment. No federal or state agency should interfere with that right either by

threats or action taken against working journalists.

The Headline Club demands that Department of Homeland Security Kristi Noem, Acting ICE Director Todd Lyons and Board Patrol Commander of Operations At Large Gregory Bovino take immediate action to ensure journalists are not targeted by officers of ICE or the Department of Homeland Security.

Respectfully,

The Chicago Headline Club Board of Directors

ICE admits it’s doing racial profiling in downtown Chicago: “Then obviously the particular characteristics of an individual, how they look, how do they look compare to, say, you?” he said to the reporter, a tall, middle-aged man of Anglo descent.”

korean reporting is nightmarish on the conditions Korean workers were contained in
Their waists and hands were tied together, forcing them to bend down and lick water to drink. The unscreened bathrooms contained only a single sheet to cover their lower bodies. Sunlight barely penetrated through a fist-sized hole, and they were only allowed access to the small yard for two hours. Detained by US immigration authorities for eight days, the workers and their families expressed shock, describing human rights violations and absurdities they could not have imagined as ordinary Koreans living in 2025.

So glad ICE is in Chicago. The city is a lawless hell-scape. Blues musicians wrecking hundreds of police cars. High schoolers doing weird scientific sex experiments. Kids home alone during the holidays. Women killing their husbands and lovers and then SINGING about it sassily. This has to stop.
