Possibly, yeah. I think another component might just be how meaningless "woke" has become, it effectively just means "bad" or "thing I don't like" at this point.

Queer rep wasn't really there, but for the 2000s that's hardly unique. I remember one of the selling points of Pathfinder c. 2010 being that they included a lot more queer characters than D&D.

Bizarre given the chuds tend to gravitate more toward the TSR era. Plus, at least going off of remembered art, 3e and 4e both took a lot of pains to make it clear that women and POC belonged as adventurers. The execution wasn't always great (OA 2001), but there was at least an effort.

My understanding is that Ed Greenwood intended the setting to be aggressively horny, but that it was rolled back hard by TSR.

It's a really bizarre decision, but I think it speaks a lot to just how much of a flop H2sh has been. Critical reception has been bad of course but I think this makes it clear it was impacting sales, I don't think they would have done this otherwise.
