I've just released a free photography e-book Venetian Observations at mattpalmer.co/venetian-obs...

It features street photography captured over about 2 weeks in Venice last year with fairly irreverent commentary.

Hope you enjoy :)

Natural frame was captured in the beautiful Finnish swampland of Tunturiaapa. In winter they become a minimalist photographer's dream, although the snow-shoeing can be a bit tricky at times!

A lot to say in few characters; Lumen Australis is an Australian Photography Collective and you can download our first e-book Ikara \ Vulkathunha (featuring the South Australian outback) at lumenaustralis.com

No title yet... the tree and ravens were captured separately in the highlands of Falls Creek here in Australia. We have very chaotic forests which means the fog is quite vital to making a clear composition.

The last few weeks have been a bit crazy. Archie is settling in and taking to his training (although separation training is slow). And then there is the chaos of the world right now.

It has been hard to find calmness and time. This one is Jagged Mirror.

I'm posting 'Hold Your Head High' today, as we adopted a rescue dog Archie yesterday and this image reminds me so much of taking a proud dog on a walk.

Hopefully he settles in well with Mieke and I and we spend many years together!

All Connected is a small section of Baron Falls in #NewZealand #MilfordSound. The effect was created by a small screw being loose on the lens, creating a narrower area of focus. Later fixed!

Strong light and shadow in the Italian #dolomites. This was taken on the Monte Specie / Strudelkopf hike which gives a fantastic view of several other mountain ranges including the iconic Tre Cime.

'Crabs Dream of Flight' is an image I found on the coast of the #Daintree region of North #Queensland

Crabs create these little balls when filter feeding - picking out all the good bits between the sand granules. It's not every day they make pictures though!

Frozen Giant was captured on the top of a Finnish fell in Winter last year.

There's not a lot I love more than trudging around in snow capturing beautiful frozen landscapes...

'Chaos and Cold' is a shot of falling snow in fire affected forest in Tasmania's South-West. Pondering loss of shelter, a green rosella is composited in to ask these questions and provide a visual anchor.

Always be making photos.
Even when something makes you angry.
Especially if something makes you angry.

This image is 'Disposed' which is a documentation of found illegal dumping in a forest area of Tasmania.

Sometimes you have the most amazing and beautiful conditions, but your favourite photo is taken of the ground in the carpark as you leave.

These were taken of a snowy morning in #CradleMountain #Tasmania

My goal would be to create a photograph as powerful as some of the songs that have moved me. I don't think I've achieved that yet, I'm not sure I ever will. But I'm a much better photographer than musician so I must persist.

Uncertainty was captured in 2019 from the beginning days of the Fingal Fires which would burn 15,000 hectares of forest.

I lived on the nearby coastline and would check on the fires as part of my ASH project, documenting bushfires in #Tasmania

This image is called Light in the Dark. It was taken after 'fog hunting' in #tasmania. and driving the backroads to get back to #hobart. I had noticed that the sun was piercing through plantation forest so I hopped out to see what I could find, and stumbled upon this scene.

One of my favourite #abandoned places that I have photographed Dagverðará, #iceland

A large Icelandic Raven snuck up on me and cawed loudly right behind me, cheeky bugger! I considered it the guardian of this house.

Victoria isn't particularly known for #aurora, but with the sun being at its solar maximum it's a great time to keep an eye on the night sky. Two of the best Aurora I've ever seen have been right here in Vic.

Given the size of the Australian Alps we actually get quite a lot of snow, although with climate change the amount of snow and how long it settles has changed drastically over the years. But it's always a time of year I look forward to photographing.

This is a composite #photo called 'Wait For Me!'

Conifer saplings in Finnish #Lapland looked like little cartoon characters, so I decided to create an image that would tell a comical story about them. More info in the alt tag!

Taken on a recent trip in #KranjskaGora in #Slovenia. Slemenova Špica was probably my favorite hike of the trip. After climbing up the initial steep hill in deep fog this scene revealed itself as a reward. Sometimes you make a photograph and other times #nature gives it to you!

It's an interesting exercise choosing a first post on a new social media network. I'm here because increasingly I am seeing traditional social media become anti-social media. Hopefully we can rediscover the joy that we had connecting.

I'm a photographer, so that's what I'll be posting. Thank you!
