It's important to need to keep in mind that AI is literally making us dumber.

Overreliance on these tools to make decisions undermines our future ability to think critically and make decisions for ourselves effectively. We *need* to continue to exercise our minds in order to retain our humanity.

Had he said 5 months that would have been a bit too overt.

Just what we want, software to make errors and generate bad data "on our behalf".

google wants to introduce errors into my spreadsheets and attribute them to me
screenshot of a popup on Google Sheets with two buttons "Learn more" and "Got it"

header reads "Gemini can now do more for you in Sheets" with "for" scribbled out in red, and the word AS above it, so it says "Gemini can now do more AS you in Sheets"

below that:
Gemini can now make requested changes and insert content directly into your files.

HIGHLIGHTED TEXT: All inserted content will be attributed to you in version history.

For inline features like =Al), Gemini will insert content directly. For the side panel, Gemini will provide a preview first unless it understands your goal is a direct edit, such as making a pivot table or adding conditional formatting.
Gemini in Workspace can make mistakes, including about people, so double-check responses.

Scaramuccis. They were just appointed yesterday.

His 18 ministers didn't even combine for 2 before getting lame ducked though.

There's actually some wild politics surrounding wild horses.

The horses laughter echos as they run away from the guy that's been stalking them to shoot them with their annual contraceptive dart.

It really pains me how necessary speaking these obvious truths has become.

That's what pushed me over the edge and I've also been using linux, bsd, etc for like 25 years so I could be glossing over minor details, but also my mid-70s mom also loves her linux laptop 1000x more than she was enjoying it as a windows one after I migrated it.

It's become shockingly easy to get a working system that's more pleasant to use than windows+associated microsoft shit for most general-purpose applications.

I always just mentally ignore "invented xxx" stuff to the point of not even noticing it, but in retrospect I see it.

And just LOL at this ad.

Even starting from "it crashes the party" (true) and "schools have to do something" (also true) there's ample space to build a reasonable position!

Unproven tech "crashing the party and rearranging the furniture" in itself a compelling reason to pump the brakes, not an argument to adopt it.

I'm pretty sure he's is at the front of the line. He's been holding a spot for years.

Have you seen the shit AI users post?

Why on earth does he maintain that...thing?

The structure of separating G/T completely and starting from K described by the article feels...really off if the goal is quality education. Feels like topical enrichment opportunities for those who excel in X subject - available to all regardless of whether they excel elsewhere - would be better.

This isn't what the NYC program does though. It just shuttles the "top 4%" of 4 year olds (as a starting point) to a separate system. They used to base it on testing 4yos!
mattsteg.bsky.social
That's true but also the NYC model of enrolling a quota of kids into a completely different track at 4YO and just fast-tracking the same material also isn't it. It's just segregation. Far better to enrich and with advanced opportunities in areas of aptitude and interest with greater flexibility.

My wife is an elementary gifted ed specialist. The idea that gifted kids either don't exist or don't benefit from gifted education services is both wrong and harmful to those kids. Phasing out gifted programs is stupid. www.nytimes.com/2025/10/02/n...

Why does this exist.

sigh. (seen in a kid toy section of store)
Picture of a pictionary game box that says pictionary VS AI in big letters at the top. On the box it has phrases like "can you predict if the AI will get it right?" And "human sketches, AI guesses!"

To be clear this is how they are advertising it.

Surely this will end well.

Also very easy to get worked up and throw false positives. Probably great if you just want to decimate (roman meaning) your force and create a chilling effect though.

Who are these surprised economists?
atrupar.com
CNBC: "Very disappointing. It's a weak number. This is private sector jobs for September. The total comes in -32,000. And that was a surprise because economists were looking for an increase of 51,000. Also, the revision was not good. August now showing -3,000 compared to the initial read of 54,000"
