DOTs in these contexts seem utterly reluctant to do any “value engineering” upfront by choosing less than “optimal” lane widths. They always want these giant shoulders!

seemingly the importance of actually exclusive ROW needs to be learned corridor by corridor, so I worry that not having done the Columbia Pike streetcar will mean bus priority there will be mostly in name only

This is v confusing to me bc “expand the Acela” is so far from what’s going on with or even proposed for the many passenger rail corridors that could use improvement in this country. Including the NEC!
