No Kings in Topeka, Kansas attracted about 4,000 boisterous, angry, but very peaceful people to the state capitol grounds to exercise their 1st Amendment rights. Knowledgeable observers commented that this was the largest demonstration at the statehouse in recent memory. #nokings #50501

NEW: It's time to #FundLibraries.

As we fight for the long-term future of federal funding for libraries in Congress & in the courts, it's critical that our elected officials CONTINUE to provide annual funding.

Take action, tell your House Rep to fund libraries in FY26: bit.ly/FundLibraries26House

And lying.

BREAKING — Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) staffers who were put on admin leave on Monday just got letters letting them know they’re a part of a Reduction in Force (RIF) and that their job will be “abolished” effective May 4th in accordance with Trump’s EO, per copy reviewed by me.

For those of us who dedicated our lives to expanding access to the ideas embodied in the humanities, this is getting quite demoralizing.

Cultural groups across U.S. told that federal humanities grants are terminated
Among the thousands of groups affected by the sudden cessation of funds are state arts councils, museums, historic sites, archives, libraries, educators and media outlets in all 50 states.

ALA is deeply concerned by reports that IMLS is sending notices to libraries claiming to cancel grants that are required by law. This harmful action will disrupt libraries' ability to serve their communities.

SCOOP: DOGE notified the Institute of Museum and Library Sciences (IMLS) today that the entire staff is being put on administrative leave effective immediately, I’ve learned from an agency source.

They’ll be cancelling huge swaths of grants/contracts and starting a Reduction in Force (RIF).

When you look at the list of institutions they want to defund: libraries, museums, the Smithsonian, public schools, PBS, NPR, archives, you can clearly see that the real threat to an authoritarian regime is an informed and educated public

Despicable
Senate Republicans would rather you didn’t find out they just voted to give the biggest banks billions in profits from overdraft fees that kick working people when they’re down. Disgraceful.

Meanwhile, every Senate Democrat voted against it.

The IMLS is essential to quality of life in this country. You may not be aware of the role of this small but mighty agency, but I guarantee all thinking and reading Americans will miss it when it's gone. Please join the fight to save it.
🚨NEW🚨: Donald Trump is attempting to strip away federal support for libraries. We will NOT let that happen.

Last night the President signed an order to gut the Institute of Museum & Library Services. But together, we know we can show up & defeat it.
