I feel like this photo of masked, armed men pepper spraying a pastor protecting his community is going to be a defining picture of this moment in America for a long, long time.

Happiest of pub days, @kristinaten.bsky.social ! I cannot wait to get your book into my hands!

Today is pub day for Tell Me Yours, I’ll Tell You Mine! However much writing can be a solitary act, putting a book out definitely isn’t. Thanks to Stillhouse Press and all of Tell Me Yours’ many champions.

My first book is out now. I hope you like it.

“The curtains flutter through the open window of our third-floor bedroom where we’ve decamped as though in hiding, as if bad news won’t reach us here”

Oof does this gorgeous piece by @saralippmann.bsky.social capture the moment so well. Hope you’ll read it. ❤️

“The coat of A.I. gloss is giving the administration runway to double down on bad ideas…

It’s possible that other parts of the economy are being held back by A.I.’s dominance. That’s what happened in the 1990s internet boom.”

Very interesting piece (gift article):

Last year they claimed “illegals” were voting, without any evidence.

They used fear mongering to push for voter suppression laws.

Now they claim “illegals” are getting free healthcare, again without any evidence.

So they can make healthcare unaffordable for millions of Americans.

Enough.

handed you the promised coffee with an apology: no sugar, no milk, I’m sorry.

I don’t need those things, you said, and I fell in impossible love with you all over again.

I’d come from my room carrying everything I wanted to happen that didn’t. Now the lobby was too bright and smelled like grapefruits and your face was weary in a way that felt intimate.

You spoke quietly to me in the taxi, then held me twice at the terminal, which I took to mean you loved me too, despite.

A couple of friends who have also lost parents in the last couple years reached out recently to tell me how sad this fall has been for them. Something about the season brings their grief to the forefront. A melancholy, autumn feeling of things ending. Anyway, hugs to anyone experiencing this too...

Hopefully the whole Bari Weiss thing and Ezra Klein thing starts waking people up to the fact that corporate media is mostly populated with mediocre people who have made millions and gained unbelievable influence because they threaten nothing and tell wealthy people exactly what they want to hear.
