I've been gathering life for a few months now. Here's my first poem for a long time.

Impressions of Istanbul Rain drips on the marble threshold, and laughing doves ripple the air. Muezzins interrupt the coffee-shop chatter, regulating even us infidels before the dogs' rebuke. Their howls and yips persist long after the call to prayer ends with an electronic beep. Strong coffee grounds my butterflies while beneath our catamaran, the Marmara Sea flashes like crystal in an Istanbul palace. We will return, but for now the green hills of the Bosphorus are replaced by the scorched Dardenelles and Turkiye has just begun. Mavis Moog 2025

Visiting the Eden Project with Busra and Emre. It is an amazing place. 👏
Frangipani flowers. They look like they are made of silk and the scent is divine. These flowers were a regular feature of my childhood in HK and India. A path leading between luch greenery yo the biomes.

I just gave Clovis a much needed hair cut.

An early morning walk in delightful South Wales.
4 dogs enjoying the relative coolness of an early morning walk on a tarmacadam road surrounded by woodland. This is a cycle path so dogs can be off lead as long as they can be gathered to me when a bike comes by. The dogs are panting even at 05:30. Two old (12 years old) lurchers plodding sedately with mouths open and tongues out. Oak trees in early sunlight. The highlighted leaves contrast against the shade of the trunk. Early morning sun filtered through oak trees, the sunlight is green. In the crook of a large oak, a little fern garden is highlighted lime-green.

We are out early today (05:30) so the dogs can exercise before it gets too hot. It is a beautiful time of day.

This is the result of 4 x 2 hour sessions at woodturning class. I spent a lot of that time watching demonstrations, so this probably took 4 hours. I am delighted with my pot with lid made from an old fence post.

Aw shucks! I haven't been around much recently because my life has spiralled into a whirl. Thank you to all the wonderful poets here for creating this amazing tribe of creative folk. Having made 4 hats last month, I think it is time I got back to poetry.

I spent the day at The American Museum in Bath. Beautiful gardens and house. They have a wonderful collection of quilts. Strongly recommend.

The Duck Race It's Duck Race Season in many British Villages. The excitement never fails to infect a few tourists. The crowd on the bridge murmur with anticipation. They'll be coming round that bend any minute. The tourists look from one beaming face to the next. How do the ducks know to compete? We train them from an early age. What a quaint local tradition. The river giggles beneath the bridge. A shout... High viz marshalls with megaphones run along the river bank calling numbers. Spectators jostle for a better view. A cheer announces the appearance of the leader ahead of a handful of the elite followed, around the bend in the river, by a fraying raft of yellow plastic ducks. Mavis Moog 2025

What A Ton of Bricks Taught Me. It hit me like 445 bricks, except I survived. So I took the bricks and examined them, chipped the mortar from them, felt their edges, and pits. read the Braille along their surfaces, interpreted their spines, compared their copper and crimson hues, organised them into sets, introduced myself, discussed Nietzsche and built a relationship with them. Eventually, what I didn’t know about those bricks wasn’t worth knowing. On this foundation, I constructed my recovery. Used plumb-lines and spirit-levels to perfect the courses. Laid and tapped each block to perfection. Until finally, I had a tall, robust and imposing monument to defeat. Mavis Moog 2025

Lovely walk this afternoon. This is a little bit of what inspired my poem, Green Goddess.

While walking the dogs these last few days I have felt like I am in Heaven, and if I'm in Heaven, I must be a goddess. 😉
Green Goddess Sea-foam round vocanic rock parakeets flash through the park, a mound of spongy sphagnum moss - its ever-decreasing fractal art; pistachio lichen festooned across the ferny forest tossed with herbs; when sun lights the fresh oak shoots it brings the tang of lime and mint to the feast of emerald jewels that astonish me and gently hint that I am in my firmament.
