Certified urban planner posting for California YIMBY about housing, and for myself about skateboarding and cameras. Tradeoffs are real. he/him

FWIW I think the restaurateurs' predictions of doom if they're forbidden from charging junk fees are a lot like bar owners' predictions of doom in advance of indoor smoking bans.

Remarkable!

I would read the hell out of an essay on it.

There was/is a broad brush junk fee bill. That’s why California customers now see “all in” prices for concert tickets, hotel stays, flights, and so on.

SF restaurants flipped out right before it went into effect and demanded an industry specific carve out. Senator Wiener acceded to their demand.

A prediction: Berlin is going to be a shell of its current self in 20 years unless the city government starts dealing with their housing shortage RIGHT NOW.

Totally unironically: cities like SF and NYC are losing cultural vibrancy because we didn’t build enough fancy new condos for yuppies and new office buildings for their businesses over the past 40 years; so they outbid the weird dirtbags for the old rental housing and warehouse/industrial spaces.

Using the accusation of homosexuality to mock and demean straight-identified people is homophobic, even when the person you're making fun of is themselves a homophobe.
