Oh and look, also, a city wide egg hunt earlier this year including locations a stone's throw from Laila Cunningham's Bayswater home.

Wait til Reform's Laila Cunningham finds out (a) what celebrating Easter actually looks like for Christians, (b) that it already happens, and (c) that it's organised with the support of Labour Mayor Sadiq Khan.

No amount of backpedaling by X on Grok GenAI imagery, including child sexual abuse imagery will redeem it. Knowingly removing those constraints, even for a moment, to boost engagement is abhorrent. Also, it's still available to paying subscribers!! Delete your account and don't visit X.

OK UK transport nerds, Manual for Streets 3 is here.

Or at least, a commitment to publish it is contained in the new Road Safety Strategy...!

What is the first thing you're CTRL+F-ing on the new guidance?

What's the new thing you hope it contains that will make it easier to design better streets?

Great to see. Is it normal for these not to be concreted into the pavement? It would be very abnormal in London to see exposed nuts and bolts since it would make them (more) vulnerable.

I said, yes, let's meet to discuss at an early stage what C27 improvements could look like and other cross border schemes like Bayswater Road. That was in July. No reply yet from Cllr Johnny Thalassites

I'll just leave these more recent election results here for information...

The word from @phil-pja.bsky.social is that the part of TSRGD which permits zebras across cycle tracks without Belisha beacons and zigzags is simply being extended to side roads. Easy! UK Department for Transport, take note.

Our trial in Westminster was quoted alongside the Cardiff and Manchester trials in the Welsh government announcement. It has seen proper yielding to pedestrians jump from 40% to 80%.

Ireland changed rules around zebra crossings to make them easier to install on side and main roads.

These bits are pavement kerb build outs next to the drop off point for buses at the nearby school, but it's all good news for walking and cycling 🥳

WHO is putting these BREAD BIN BIKE BUNKERS on every street?

Wheely good news for this part of central London. The decision to implement Cycleway 43 has been published. This administration is delivering safer, more pleasant walking and cycling that will give more transport freedom and choice to people including families of all abilities

Why empty cycle lanes are a symbol of efficiency.

Fresh paving from a London Labour council? Maybe the capital isn't the hellscape some would have you believe!

As of 11am on Friday, al fresco dining has come to St Martin's Lane in the West End, with Rupert Street market arriving in Soho later that day. It's a huge step towards making our city more people-friendly. This street is now free of general motor traffic 11am-11pm daily until end of October

Start somewhere. Gloucester Tce residents told me drivers speed like they're already on the A40. Design contributed. The street had been surrendered to highway infrastructure

Then v now
🌲Tree pruned
🚧No more temp traffic management kit
🛣️Signs have been raised
🦓4 zebra crossings connect all corners

How did this happen?

Two cycle hire docking stations installed in 2023/24

As Lime & Forest use was growing fast

These stations are at the edge of the network

Yet with 50+ trips/day they are more popular than 1/3 of Westminster stations many of which have been in place 15 years & are more central

Until recently, parking a bike in a hangar (📷Left) for a year was £72 more expensive than parking a 4L petrol/electric hybrid SUV (📷Right)

Now the bike is £83 cheaper to park than the hybrid SUV

And £331 cheaper than the most polluting diesel vehicles

How are your local politicians doing on this?

↕️ Go with (+ against) the flow

We're adding contra-flow cycling to 15 more one-way streets

Caroline Tait studied 500+ such streets over 22+ years. Better for cycling. No rise in the rate of crashes:

Because half of bike share users are first time cyclists or cycling after a break of a year or more (COMOUK)

And nearly half of Londoners aged 18-34 use Lime bikes every week

So happy birthday TfL Cycle hire here's to the next 15!

Have Lime bikes killed Sadiq's cycles just as they turn 15?🧁💩

Well... No, it's growing, with over 850K trips in June. And my hunch is Dockless bikes are helping because they help to create new cyclists.

Why? Well...

When all the people and goods who can go by sustainable transport modes, do

Then there's less congestion for the buses, black cabs, ambulances and... taxiambu... Ambucab... I'm sorry what is that vehicle?

In 2024/25 Westminster Council is laying new paving in over 30 locations (+ reactive repairs)

We've doubled the budget for our planned preventative maintenance program compared to the previous administration

This is the better layout of echelon parking in action.
July 27, 2025 at 9:57 PM
Our cycle hangars are now available in echelon flavour.

Unfortunately the echelon parking design is not ideal. A safer layout is one that forces cars to reverse in: therantyhighwayman.blogspot.com/2020/02/park...
