And the far-right is also bad because they're authoritarian. But I just don't see how you can compromise on a little treating some fellow citizens as unequal based on who their parents are and maintain your stance against them. At that point you've sold your soul and are just haggling over price.

The trick Mantel does of making the third person point of view character totally justified in their own narrative works so muuch better when there are three protagonists! Plus you can feel her grudge against the British conservative view of the French Revolution and that's great.
