Took two days off after submitting the final draft of my Robert Gould Shaw bio, but now I am back to work on my new book project, which is a study of the Gettysburg Campaign from the perspective of the thousands of enslaved laborers forced to travel with Robert E. Lee's Army of Northern Virginia.

Stephen Miller is murdering Venezuelans and Colombians in cold blood bc he believes it helps his propaganda campaign to paint Latinos as dangerous.

Stephen Miller views the air strikes as an opportunity to paint immigrants as a dangerous menace, according to one of the White House officials.

Friends and comrades made a crowdfunding page for my family.

It’s really hard to post this. I know that there are a lot of other important issues asking for money but things have gotten to the point where we need to open ourselves up to your support.

Thank you for your consideration.

I think it's comforting for some people to believe there haven't been pro-Palestine protests since Trump came to power. But it factually isn't true, although the greater repression probably keeps them smaller. I see the protests with my own eyes.
mayachhabra.bsky.social
There are pretty frequent pro-Palestine protests in my city, just saw one the other day when I was out at the farmer's market. The fact that in this very city a protest leader was arrested in front of his pregnant wife hasn't stopped them.

Judge Immergut isn’t playing around and I suspect will slam the Trump Administration for trying to end-run her order from yesterday blocking Trump’s call-up of Oregon’s National Guard in Portland.

We must now start calling this what it is: Trump’s Invasion. It started with federal agents, it will soon include deploying federalized members of the Illinois National Guard against our wishes, and it will now involve sending in another state’s military troops.

This evening, President Trump is ordering 400 members of the Texas National Guard for deployments to Illinois, Oregon, and other locations within the United States. No officials from the federal government called me directly to discuss or coordinate.

tbt the time a drunk was trying to insult one of the bouncers on the high street and got the devastating response "oh look, someone who doesn't matter has said something that isn't true". I often think about this when not replying to tweets

Those who are so inclined to immediately dismiss all the seemingly grandiose reports of torture and abuse in the Israeli prison system should read this report from B'Tselem entitled: "Welcome to Hell: The Israeli Prison System as a Network of Torture Camps"
In some cases, witnesses described other IPS personnel being present during attacks by the IRF. They stood idly by and did nothing to protect the victims, their presence essentially lending legitimacy to the actions. The presence of IPS officers and the participation of dozens of IPS guards in the assaults indicates that these were not isolated incidents or the work of a rogue guard.
On 9 November 2023, at around 2:00 P.M., a force of 20 masked officers from the IRF and DU arrived with a dog. They opened the cell door and attacked

Reviving this thread from Hong Kong as federal agents throw tear gas at people on the street in Chicago.

It might not be a bad idea to have water/saline in squirt bottles on hand.

(We'd be great if not for Trump et al. It was a beautiful day today - I rode my bike along the lake for 2 hours.)

Hey journos/other latecomers to HK. I'm a former volunteer ambulance officer and current journo (tear gassed twice this week), and today we're going make some Hotel Room isotonic saline.

But first, let's talk about tear gas.
