Russia makes this argument anyway china is more subtle in Asia security by Asian framework. neither of them need Justification and for china international law is on its side with regard to Taiwan at least so they don't need Justification.

Shared values is preceded by and basically means shared history which usa never had with ind unlike with Japan and especially chn & west ofc. This relationship was always transactional with bets being put for future. Neither ind nor usa ever believed they shared lot with each other.

to adapt to balance of power where rules are selectively applied and interests are frankly acknowledged. US is unusually well suited for it bc its core economic space is self sufficient and it shares extremely deep cultural ties with other powerful players & hemisphere tougher for others to enter

Newsom loathes gop he doesn't really have any other policies which is good. But thing is there's deep longing for respectability politics within dems. It makes them feel smart and adult and I think Newsom might be the only one immune. Even then maybe.

Incidentally this is actual soft power. When you succeed it makes others want to associate with you. USA can never have the soft power of China or Russia since its leader of west and most countries define themselves as anti West what it can have is this soft power associated with winners.
