The weather in Perth is a bit dicey right now 😬

I was wondering if there were any way to make providing ID to access websites more private.

Does anyone more techy than me know, would it be possible to create ID local to the device? Show your device your ID then it communicates with the website saying 'yep OK'.

I would be shocked if there wasn't at least one guy in Hawaii paddling out to ride the tsunami because it's 6 feet, perfect wave height for surfing

A very exciting encounter at Kelmscott Station for me yesterday: a train running at speed along the platform!

It's been a busy few days for me :)

I want to present: The first iteration of my improved train services map for Perth! As inspired by cphtransitmap.dk, the concept aims to simplify and beautify the Transperth map. I may make further versions for legibility, accessibility, and additional features.

If you take public transport in Perth and have ever wondered why we, unlike many other cities, don't have live service tracking in third-party apps: I wrote to Transperth and got this reply back. Unfortunate, because I would love to use other apps to fully replace the Transperth app.

This may be showing how young I am, but I don't have Facebook. I went over there to check out Metronet's progress because that seems to be their primary mode of communication, and made the mistake of looking in the comments. Do all the commenters share a single braincell?! Made me sad for society.

I created this map: a 2km radius around Perth's train & bus stations. This is a 20min walk for a healthy, fit person, and a 5 minute bike ride — the maximum for a comfortable trip, in my opinion.

It shows where Perth's biggest public transport gaps are. See alt text for the key.

Mathematically, we now know that every time Hulkenberg scores a podium, the Red Bull team principal gets sacked. It is a perfect correlation — which definitely implies causation... #F1
July 9, 2025 at 11:52 AM
Did you know? With his podium finish today, I'm fairly certain Hulkenberg is now the driver with the most races to achieve the first podium (238 starts). #F1 #BritishGP #Hulkenberg

Oscar's margin in championship narrowed but I can't even be mad, that's a clean McLaren 1-2 and the FIRST HULK PODIUM 💚 it must be a good day to be a sauber fan #f1

DOTD is Nico, fair play to him too :D

Piastri-Norris-Hulkenberg, I'm manifesting it 🤞 #BritishGP #F1

This whole race is a MESS lmao, Franco stalls, Liam-Ocon collision, Bortoleto spin, Oscar overtake, Stroll in points (?!), Hamilton and Leclerc have both taken little drifts, Hadjar-Antonelli collision, Max spins out, Oscar gets a 10s penalty, Bearman-Tsunoda collision... and we're only halfway! #f1

Nuclear sites in Iran have been bombed — does that mean those sites are now irradiated? How bad is the fallout and other associated environmental damages? I haven't seen anyone ask this question today, so what kind of impact have the strikes had?

If anyone needed a reminder as to how bad of a person Scott Morrison is, here is your reminder:

My proposal (fantasy?) for regional rail in Western Australia. This would be just the start; lines extending north toward the Pilbara + additional lines in the south & south-west would follow. But as a start, this uses mostly pre-existing track & rights of way.

Apple-owning Perth peeps: Apple will be moving its store to Forrest Place, in the old Commonwealth Bank building, from June 27. Nice central location. They also released a nice wallpaper to celebrate :)

A lot of people online seem to have forgotten with this mushroom deaths case — the point is that someone can only be punished if they are guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. People responding to the latest news always say 'Oh, so you admit she lied' — but lying proves nothing. Public scrutiny, I know.

An octopus was killed at a beach today. A lovely, curious, gentle octopus, who I had been watching for days, got a little too close to spearfishers. It was killed, for the simple crime of not knowing better. For its sweet, inquisitive nature. I doubt anyone else will care too much, but I'm crushed.

For anyone interested in the minutiae of the Transperth network, here is a comparison of the current system map and the new one on the Thornlie-Cockburn Line brochure. The largest changes are the open Thornlie-Cockburn & Armadale (to Cannington) lines & a new Cannington-Bull Creek key bus corridor.
