I don't understand — why does Tasmania have to build a stadium to host an AFL team? They already host footy games there, why not just upgrade those stadiums at minimal cost and community impact?

It's the same for bike infrastructure!

We built a brand new high-quality path with no connections → our surveys show no-one is using it → there's no point in building bike paths → nobody rides bikes due to a lack of paths

Can't wait for the obligatory 'more than 11 senior local residents voiced their CRITICAL opposition to the DESTRUCTIVE and WOKE TRAIN STATION' from the Daily Mail

Newsom gives off really sketchy vibes to me but I think there does need to be a Democratic version of Trump (rhetoric-wise lol not in any other way)

And 61km/h sustained winds makes it just about gale-force haha

And then what happens? Without negotiation and a deal with the Greens, Labor has no realistic chance of being a viable government. Labor has its chance now, to negotiate and form government, but soon enough the Liberals will have the independents on side and the chance of a Labor government is gone.

I reckon something like 25% of people hate traffic cameras, another 15% just kinda don't like them, and the vast majority of everyone else is pretty neutral.

Although, EVERYBODY hates traffic cameras when you get pinged by one haha

I'm still very impressed by New Zealand's model, it keeps all the benefits of having single-member electorates while being explicitly designed to be almost perfectly proportional.
August 5, 2025 at 9:31 AM
Yes, the 'winner's bonus' effect. The preferential system does help to mitigate certain issues with the majoritarian system — such as making third parties viable — but ultimately all single-member electorate systems have structural flaws.

It is worth remembering that Labor is a party with strong — and enforced — party solidarity. It is entirely possible that Penny Wong has been advocating for action on Palestine at caucus meetings behind closed doors for years, but the political tide has finally shifted in her direction.

With plenty of parks and good public transport too. Actually, maybe they should take away the casino carpark and turn that into apartments. The industrial areas near Oats Street and Cannington stations also seem like low-cost, high-value development potential.

Instead what they should (but won't) do is intensify the housing density closer to the city. Take out the detached '80s houses — few will miss them — and create European-style mid-rise apartment blocks with tree-lined streets.

The profile pic and erratic nature of the reposting makes me think this is a poorly-built bot lol

As someone who is completely unfamiliar with Auckland's rail, the most confusing parts are the loop as you mentioned, but also I can't make heads or tails of how the on-peak/off-peak sections are meant to work

That way, it would appease both the people who (I think legitimately) don't want to see kids accessing inappropriate content online, while also addressing the concerns of privacy implications of having to verify age on many websites.

Or am I completely stupid and this is not implementable lol
August 4, 2025 at 1:40 PM
In fact it will probably be in my YouTube feed by tomorrow morning and feature some guy on a cliff zoomed all the way in, whooping and cheering while his friend catches some crazy tsunami surf lol (and have like 60 views)

what's your objection lol, I said that Apple's systems already include AI and pointed out how it has a different approach
July 28, 2025 at 4:36 AM
Apple does already include AI but it might be the best implementation of AI. They prioritise on-device, low-energy models, which means that AI is handled entirely on your phone instead of handing it off to a power- and water-greedy data centre
July 25, 2025 at 1:55 PM
Apple is overall one of the better companies for privacy. They have explicit long-term privacy goals, and with recent software versions have been implementing a variety of measures which give users more control over their data. I fear you are reading into a conspiracy here that simply doesn't exist!

I think they should prioritise criminalising and institutionalising child rapists but then the Trump team would be running pretty short on leaders

I still can't fathom why Infantino let him have the medal and the trophy. They should have gone to the winning team or stayed with FIFA, for safekeeping. Then again, corrupt recognise corrupt 🤷‍♂️
