What a lovely message from @bookshop.org. Glad to see them growing and growing. We CAN claim back what has been taken from us by these monstrous corporations, and it starts with things like this. Grab some books these next couple days!

Here's what the loofah gourd=>loofah sponge process looks like. You let them dry on the vine (which helps remove skin+seeds; picked mine early bc too wet here=gourds were rotting instead of drying). Peel the skin; soak in soap & bleach, dry on sun.
Photo of a wood deck railing bearing 4 loofah gourds in various states: just picked and looking like a knobbly cucumber the size of your arm; cut in half to show inside fibers and seeds; skin peeled off to show that white, dried-ramen-block-like loofah sponge texture but still soaked in green sap; and after bleaching and sun drying, looking exactly like the rough loofah sponges to use in the shower because that's what they are. It looks like a beige block of dried ramen, except tinier strings.

Just posting this. Everyone knows why.
Text of the fourth amendment “The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.”

But I think their hand was forced given the pressure to specifically not fund NPR.

Here's the assignment folks. Write op-eds for your local papers and campus newspapers too. Just. Say. No. This is a classic authoritarian move and risks the future of higher education and science and innovation in the US. Speak out today. No time to lose. www.nytimes.com/2025/10/02/o...

The natural weathering of ALL THE ROCKS in the world removes almost 1 billion tonnes of CO₂ from the atmosphere every year. Enhanced rock weathering is an attempt to use a minuscule fraction of ALL THE ROCKS to remove many times more CO₂.
How spreading rocks on fields could combat climate change
‘Enhanced rock weathering’ is a simple, but also hard to measure, way of capturing carbon

I may wrinkle my nose. A wrinkle in time is perfectly reasonable.
