I love spicy things, being outside, the ocean, vegetables, taking pictures, animals, and music, to name a few
Making what will be one of the last batches of homegrown salsa this year - it might turn out spicy, but it’s supposed to be for guests and parties.

I shall give my family a nice mix of trials for Christmas.

Posting for accountability: no one needs this many hot peppers. I need to start fewer seeds in 2026. I’ve made a ton of hot sauce and eaten many raw. This is what was left on plants before 7f temps a few nights ago. The gold/brown ones are Pumas and they are HOT. I guess I make more sauce.

The usual “paddle a canoe full of Christmas decorations to a crowd of kids”, this time with freezing rain. We escort Santa to the dock and then throw candy canes to the kids.

This week has been the “working cats”’ first snow since we’ve had them. Last year, they were not yet out of the loft. We aren’t sure if they saw any before the shelter picked them up, and that was their first winter. They don’t seem to mind it at all…

Decisions were made here. Actually, Statler seemed to like his (partially) inflatable hamburger skating rink.

We got 1/4” of snow overnight. While we had the door open, Meadow went in the trash, got a piece of baling twine out, and flailed it in Cloud's face. She also took a repeatedly yawned into Cloud’s groin. I don’t understand why this much snow makes her so wack.

It has been a long day since I got I up at 3am (thanks, high ceiling smoke detector low battery chirp). When discussing dinner, I mentioned an herb I didn’t want - “oregutan”.

I guess tonight is the dreaded “cut the greenhouse tomato vines down and pick all the blushing fruit” night. I’ll try covering everything with a frost blanket to see if I can squeak out another few weeks. Something ate all the greens I had growing out there. They were covered in hardware cloth.

Catnip, then fake hunting of an inanimate object.

It was really miserable out today, and the roads were bad, but look at the icy glaze on these holly leaves and berries.

I had no idea that a 10” funnel was something missing from my life. Yes, I got 2 - one is a Christmas gift (I know the recipient will feel the same).
December 2, 2025 at 9:51 PM
I got 2 strands of (solar) Christmas lights up outside, got my cards and list out, and wrapped 3 gifts. I can’t believe tomorrow is December.

Banana bread w/ chocolate chips and banana-cinnamon baked oatmeal are cooling & destined for the freezer for snack emergencies. I hope to get another batch of tomatoes & peppers processed for future chili. Then I guess I must teach Statler alternative ways to exit the hay room… #notaproblemsolver

This “language” gives me unpleasant feelings.

This much color at the end of November feels like a bonus.

I love my on-demand smorgasbord of hot peppers of all shapes, sizes, colors, flavors, and heat levels. This was one day’s ration for me. I won’t love it so much in February as I’m starting seeds once more.

Happy Thanksgiving even though I’ve been up since 3:15am. I won’t even cook until afternoon and then just for two.
November 27, 2025 at 10:43 AM
When I finally get to go out to the greenhouse, there’d better be enough greens for a sudden Thanksgiving work potluck frittata plus actual after work dinner (we like colcannon instead of regular mashed). I think it’s possible but may be a stretch.

I went to feed horses, and the Percheron was curled up, napping on the ground. She was dreaming about eating - moving her lips. She startled and jumped up, galloping off while frantically whinnying. I would love to know what that dream was about - I’ve never seen her do this!

I just accidentally and organically invented another band name. “Extremely resilient pizzas”.

I brake for town pounds. This one is near Lebanon, CT.

I started this sauce last year, basically, because I saved seeds from 2024. I picked tons of 2025 peppers and fermented them with onion and garlic. Today I finally blended it… it’s HOT, bright, and plentiful. It will probably last a year. I actually have too many peppers for the first time ever.

A very pretty morning at Old Slater Mill

I have a life-changing tip for anyone who lives in a place with frost. I just used this for the first time myself: keep windshield washing spray bottle in the house. I sprayed each section of my windshield / windows ONE TIME and my truck is all clear. Magic! No scraping or waiting for it to warm.
