The American Conservative Movement Has Failed
Assuming the republic survives, we will have to pick up the pieces. But first we must understand who and what brought us here.

On NPR on Friday, there was a story of a 4-year-old--an American citizen--who hasn't left her house since early December, not even to play in the yard. And her 8-year-old brother recently stopped going to school, too. Their father is undocumented, and the family doesn't want to risk him being taken.

Funny how the right is outraged at Fanone flipping off a congressman just days after celebrating a president flipping off a working American .

I wrote about the limits of the authoritarian assault – and the need to push back against the idea that America is inevitably and irresistibly marching towards a Trump dictatorship.

Trump’s authoritarian desires are limitless. But his ability to impose them on America is not.

Resistance matters.
The Limits of Violent Authoritarianism
Trump’s authoritarian desires are boundless. But the past year proves that his ability to impose them on America is not.

The Insurrection Act: "What was once a fire extinguisher behind glass—clearly labeled “break only in emergency” to quell violence—now looks like a bottle of lighter fluid."

My latest in @thebulwark.com
Within living memory, when presidents invoked the Insurrection Act, they did so in circumstances that were extraordinary and in line with how the drastic act was intended to be used.

No such circumstances exist right now.

EISEN: Didn't you admit what Trump is doing to Powell is coercion?

CRAMER: It's no secret he would like Powell out. So would I. This would be an elegant way out

E: You think it'd be 'elegant' for Fed chair under threat of indictment to step down? That doesn't sound elegant

C: Ok. So you disagree

ICE are thug scum.
This is 10th-grader Arnoldo Bazan.

A citizen.

Immigration agents grabbed him and put him in a chokehold.

"We're from the United States bro!' he screamed.

Agents took and sold his phone

And when he finally got home hours later, his shirt was ripped, he neck had angry, red welts, and he sobbed.

Trump: "I'm a moral person…It's limited by my morality, and I have a very high rate of morality."

Trump: "The Constitution and courts goes without saying."

A few months ago, ICE hired me

I didn't sign and submit any paperwork. I almost certainly failed the drug test. I'm real outspoken about my opposition to the Trump administration, and I am extremely googlable

And yet, there it was, in plain English. "Welcome to ICE!"
