Last week the SNP government offered nurses, midwives and healthcare staff across Scotland a pay increase of 8% to ensure they continue to be the best paid in the UK. The offer is designed to guarantee their pay will be one percentage point above inflation over the period.

Today I lost an NIH grant training clinicians to do research about intimate partner violence with perinatal women.
More women are murdered in the perinatal period than die of obstetric complications.
I didn't just lose a grant. We lost an entire cohort of people building careers to prevent that.

Here's my final chart of the percentage council tax rises across Scotland ranging from 6% for South Lanarkshire to 15.6% for Falkirk. My own @highland.gov.uk was the second lowest at 7%.

The energy price cap has risen by £281 since Labour took office promising to reduce bills by £300. Even if they reduced bills by £300 immediately, that's only a reduction of £19 annually compared to July 2024. If you're a pensioner who lost the winter fuel payment, you'd still be £181 worse off.
