I am *so* proud to have co-authored this piece with my brilliant colleagues @abigailmhatcher.bsky.social and @kldunkle.bsky.social. It was initially written over a month ago, but becomes more timely every day.

We lay out 5 principles:

Lizza (who's got multiple allegations of sexual misconduct and harassment) is most likely posting all the gross RFK stuff now because Nuzzi had a restraining order against him until very recently. There is nothing about this story that is not depressing and I would like to unsubscribe.

When I first saw this story, my first thought was that the website language must have been written AI, because no competent scientist would ever use their human hands to type those words into being.

Good for these staff. I can't wait to celebrate them all in public...someday

What’s so pernicious about this is that science works by testing a hypothesis (call it H1) vs the null hypothesis (H0). The burden of proof is on those asserting H1 as correct. This gets our standards of proof completely backwards. This is an attack on the very foundation of scientific epistemology.

Hey #AcademicSky - I feel like we talk a lot about writing habits (aspirational 30 minutes a day, etc...) but do you all have a *reading* practice? How do you keep up with the literature? Do you aim to read a certain amount a week? Keep an endless tbr list?

This essay is my entire personality now. Every word is exactly as it should be.
I considered writing a long carefully constructed argument laying out the harms and limitations of AI, but instead I wrote about being a hater. Only humans can be haters.
I Am An AI Hater
I am an AI hater. This is considered rude, but I do not care, because I am a hater.

This idea that #metoo was a temporary piece of insanity that happened because America was too woke...

Fuck you. It was a temporary moment in time when people decided, for the first time, that 20 women were finally equal to one man.

Under absolutely no circumstances do you have to hand it to the space lasers lady.

the point of camo for a soldier is to obscure their position from the enemy. camo in an urban environment is completely different, and this forest green or desert pattern is functionally useless.

police only dress this way to project an image of power they should not have.

Please remember that your Senator is neither your friend, nor your enemy. They work for you. Call them and give them clear input. And don’t be afraid to tell them you’ll be supporting their next primary challenger if they don’t show a spine. They work for you. Threaten to fire them if you have to.

I have so much respect for Dr. Berg, so please take this as a structural observation not a personal critique: Virginia Woolf could have been discussing *this meal* in A Room of One's Own. It's an uncanny parallel.

Who was *not* at that table and what and where were they eating?
On one evening, the speakers were divided up and went to dinner parties hosted by some of the wealthy folks who lived around Cold Spring Harbor on Long Island. My dinner was delightful, with good conversation with our host (the mayor of a nearby village), his friends, and some other speakers.

Today's adventures through 3 different "impacted" airports: Hopefully a very short, very boring thread.

Brava: “If I don’t file a complaint, then what message does that send to all Mexican women?” Ms. Sheinbaum said at her daily news conference, noting sexual harassment was a crime… “If this can happen to the president, what’s going to happen to all the young women & women across our country?”
