And there is an underlying assumption in all of this that Callais goes maximalist and says no Section 2 districts or something to that effect. Much more likely what is and isn’t permitted will have to be litigated on a case by case basis.

There is a court order and injunction embodying this agreement.

Not saying Alabama wouldn’t ask to have the injunction lifted *but* there would be a process (briefing, a hearing, etc.). It isn’t like Callais comes down and Alabama can immediately redraw.

The filing is not yet available on the Supreme Court’s website. But per the court’s rules, it will go in the first instance to Justice Kagan (who oversees the 9th Circuit) who will ask the state and j revenues for a response because referring the request to the entire court.

The vote was 3-2, with Democratic senate president Bill Ferguson, who opposes a mid-decade redraw, voting no.
